Introduction to Oracle Cloud – RoadMap & Service Models

Service Models Offerings

IaaS OCI – C (Generation 1), OCI (Generation 2)
Compute, Storage & Network
PaaS Data Management, Application Development,
Business Analytics, Integrations, etc..

SaaS ERP Financials Cloud, HCM Cloud, Oracle SCM

Cloud, IoT, Industry solution etc..

3
Oracle Cloud OCI – Regions, Availability Domains & Connectivity

 Public Network
o Resources are accessible in the public n/w (or) internet
o Preferred for POC/Demo/Vision environments
o Suitable for External Clients / DMZ
 VPN
o Static routes between Source and Target,
o Private Secured connection (IPSec tunnel) between the networks
o Preferable for Non-Prod Workloads
 Fast Connect
o High Speed Connectivity (edge to edge) between Source and Target
N/ws
o Recommended for Production Workloads.
4
Oracle Cloud OCI – Key Differentiators

 Oracle is the best cloud provider for Oracle Workloads

o Predictable SLAs for the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure resources (Compute, Storage IOPs, Network Components etc..)
o Superior Database and Application Performance achieved through the network architecture of OCI
o Dedicated Servers (Bare Metal) with defined shapes and network architecture ensures “Noisy neighbors” do not impact the
performances
o Tight Security with private networking : OCI allows Enterprise Applications and Databases to run in totally private network with
out any public network access to the databases
o Oracle is the only cloud provider that offers highest level of database availability – RAC in the VMs
o Oracle Exadata Cloud Services (ExaCS) is available only in Oracle Cloud to handle mission critical workloads of Database

 Automated EBS “Lift & Shift” from On-premises to Oracle cloud and Cloning of EBS environments using Oracle Cloud
Manager tool will take only maximum of 60 to 90 minutes.

 In DBaaS offering, Standby Database can be created using Oracle ADG while provisioning the primary database.

 In DBaaS offering, DB Provisioning will have current bundle patch and CPUs included, Automated Quarterly Patch
Updates, Automated backups to Object Storage, Create Database from backup, Restore (Full/Point in time from
backup). All the above life cycle management can be done from compute.

 Complete root access to the host and still home-grown automation/monitoring solution can be incorporated.
5
Database on OCI – User Managed & Autonomous
1. User-Managed Database: In User-Managed database, DBA task such as patching,
cloning, backup & restore is managed by customers. It is further divided into three
types.

 Virtual Machine DB Systems: Database is running on Virtual Machine & It

supports both 1 -node, and 2-node RAC DB systems on Virtual Machine.
 Bare Metal DB System: Database is running on Bare Metal & It only supports
only 1-node DB systems (RAC is not supported)
 Exadata DB System: Exadata DB systems runs on Exadata on Cloud and consist of a
quarter rack, half rack, or full rack of compute nodes and storage servers, tied
together by a high-speed, low-latency InfiniBand network and intelligent Exadata
software and it supports minimum 2-node RAC and can have maximum 8-node
RAC.

2. Autonomous Database: Oracle Cloud Infrastructure‘s Autonomous Database is fully

managed by Oracle such as patching and another administrating task. Autonomous
Database is further divided into types:

 ADW: ADW stands for Autonomous Data Warehouse and used for decision support
or data warehouse workload.
 ATP: ATP stands for Autonomous Transaction Processing and used for a
transactional workload.
6
Oracle Database Editions – User Managed Databases (DBaaS)
Following are the Database Editions supported in user managed databases

1. Standard Edition
2. Enterprise Edition
3. Enterprise Edition – High Performance
4. Enterprise Edition – Extreme Performance (required for 2-node RAC DB systems)

7
Oracle Database System – Compute Shapes

8
Database migration to Cloud – Lift & Shift

Lift & Shift  Process of moving database from On-premises to Cloud and Vice Versa

Supported versions for the migration

 11g to 11g Factors to decide migration methods : Version + Character set + Endian Format
 11g to 12c (PDB)
 12c Non-CDB to 12c PDB
 12c PDB to 12c PDB
- Network & Subnets
- Create Compartment, Groups,
Users & Policies
- Install OCI CLI at on-prem DB
Server
- Collect OCID
- Download & Install Oracle
Cloud Backup Module
- Create database (DB system)
from the on-premise backup
(Object Storage)

9
EBS Lift & Shift/Deployment Options – Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

 Migrate On-prem EBS to Oracle Cloud SaaS Offerings (ERP Financials Cloud, HCM Cloud, Oracle SCM Cloud, etc..)
 Migrate/Re-platform to Oracle Cloud IaaS / OCI
o Oracle Linux (6.x, 7.x) – Application and Database VM
o SPARC Model 300 Servers (EBS on SPARC)
o EBS Versions 12.1.3 / 12.2.3 & Above are supported
o EBS Application tiers can only on Compute (VM/BM) – Single/Multi Node
o EBS Database Tiers can be on Compute/DB System (DBCS is replaced as DB System in OCI)
• Compute (IaaS) – Database Tier can be Single Node Only (Non RAC)
• DB System (PaaS) - DB instances can be provisioned in BM (Single Node), DB System (Single Instance
VM 1 node /2 node RAC), Exadata CS (RAC is Mandatory)

10
Pre-requirements – Lift & Shift to OCI Using Oracle Cloud Tool

• Connectivity between On-Premises to Oracle Cloud Virtual Cloud Network (VCN) ( IPSec VPN / Fast Connect)
• Read and understand the deployment of EBS Cloud manager in Oracle Cloud “Deploying Oracle E-Business Suite Cloud Manager on Oracle Cloud
Infrastructure (Doc ID 2434500.1)”
• Read and Understand EBS Lift & Shift Document https://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/cloud/compute-
iaas/lift_and_shift_ebs_to_oci/16oci_liftshift.html
• Ensure On-Premise EBS environment is on Linux Platform (64 bit). EBS Cross Platform migration is not supported using EBS Cloud manager (As on Apr’19).
• If multi node architecture at on-premise then ensure to have password less SSH connectivity between the nodes.
• If EBS at On-premise is integrated with other Oracle Stacks / 3rd party Applications then migrate the non-ebs environments manually to cloud, as only EBS
can be migrated using Cloud Manager wiz.
• Ensure On-Premise EBS environment Technology Stacks have all the ETCC patches applied.
• Ensure On-Premise EBS environment has the latest AD TXK Delta 10 patches applied
• Target EBS and OS Version certification in the Oracle Cloud (As of Apr’2019) is as follows
• Oracle Linux (6.x, 7.x) – Application and Database VM
• EBS Versions 12.1.3 / 12.2.3 & Above are supported
• EBS Application tiers can only on Compute (VM/BM) – Single/Multi Node
• EBS Database Tiers can be on Compute/DBCS/ExaCS
• Compute (IaaS) – Database Tier can be Single Node Only (Non RAC)
• DBCS (PaaS) - DB instances can be provisioned in BM (Single Node), VM (Single/2 node RAC), Exadata CS (RAC is Mandatory)
• Oracle Cloud Account/Tenancy has access to Cloud Resources (Compartment, Network, Subnet, Security Lists, Routing Tables, Compute & Storage )
• Oracle Cloud Identifiers (OCID) for Tenancy, Compartment, Compute, User & groups, Network resources and etc...
• Object Storage end point (SWIFT Storage URL) for on-premise backup. The end points are different between the cloud regions.
• AUTH Token/Swift Password, Oracle Cloud Fingerprint
