Status May 2018

K.Kraehenbuehl
Global actions since Feb review:

Internal note 23.5. by D.O’Connor (Nestrade/AgriSupplier Dvlpt team) & C. Servais (BQM, IC,M&D)

Requirements for Nutrition:

• Nestrade Agronomists to once again reaffirm with suppliers that they do not use glyphosate directly on
any agricultural crop delivered to our NN factories.
• Factory QMs to collaborate with the Nestrade Agronomists and ensure that glyphosate is included in
pesticide monitoring of relevant raw materials.

The limits to be applied are:

• Until end 2018 - Market release of contaminated ingredients up to ≤ 0.050 mg/kg in finished product
by recipe calculation, except for EU where ≤ 0.010 mg/kg applies today.
Market release must include regulatory review and approval by the business manager for the category.
• From 2019 – Ingredient limit at 0.010 mg/kg (0.01 is the acceptable level due to non-intentional cross-
contamination between treated and untreated crops)

EUROPE- Update on actions since Feb 2018 – No positives in FERT or ROH

STATUS:
“No direct application of glyphosate” through contract growing
Re-enforced communication on compliance management of ingredients (Karin&BQMs)
-> no recipe calculations, no non compliances escalated since November

Cereals:
By legislation, not allowed for pre-harvest treatment of cereals
-> No risk regarding GM crops as GM not allowed in Europe

Fruit & Veg

- > Some use in fruit orchards for clearing weeds- enforce ‘no pick from ground’
- > No direct application on trees or fruit
- > No use in vegetables (legislation)

AOA- Update on actions since Feb 2018
Agri-supplier team: D. O’Connor and Manuel Scharer

Situation assesed in all cereals for each sub-region:

- Not banned in any country
- Most frequence use before planting / pre-harvest not common
- No positives found / not sufficient testing
- Building understanding
− Glyphosate not specifically included in factory QMS until 2017
(except for China&ZAR)
Cereals:
We do not allow Glyphosate use on any of our crops (no contract growing)
Insight through selective purchasing (mainly wheat, rice and maize/soya to some extent
QMS & monitoring plan alignment 2018

Positive found in Oat -> sourcing from UK (no tracability) has been stopped.
Other: Requested strengthening of glyphosate monitoring for relevant raw materials at market level

AMS/US -Update on actions since Feb2018
Agri-supplier team: D. O’Connor & Todd DeKryger

Risk rating and action plan per crop established

Cereals:
− GMO crops allowed but not used in by NN in US -> reduced risk
− Pre-harvest treatment of cereals not allowed on cereals harvested from Jan 2018 onwards)
− oat flour ‘glyphosate free’, started supplying - move of smaller volumes expected Feb
− Cross contamination has been identified in some lots of oat. Currently investigating root cause. Agreed
interim threshold limit of 50 ppb to allow reduction of cross contamination over time
− vulnerability in the legacy co-man snacks, action plan Jan2019

Fruit & Veg

- > Some use in fruit orchards (apple) for clearing weeds- enforce ‘no pick from ground’
- > No direct application on trees or fruit
- > No use in vegetables or found (legislation)
Other: Requested strengthening of glyphosate monitoring for relevant raw materials at market level

Cereals:
- Nestle does not allow as pre-harvest treatments
- GMO allowed in some markets but NN not using GM raw materials thus risk is minimized
- The main risk is for oat and barley imported from US & lack of traceablity in rice supply
- Ongoing: implement glyphosate systematically in pesticides monitoring plans

Fruit & Veg

- Some use in fruit orchards for clearing weeds
- No direct application on trees or fruit
- No use in vegetables

Other: Requested strengthening of glyphosate monitoring for relevant raw materials at market level
