USE MINIMAL WORDS
• Having to many words on a slide or page may get confusing for young
students. In order to correct this, it is important to use minimal words.

• When giving a presentation or teaching a lesson especially to young


students, it is very important to use pictures and diagrams before words.

• Teachers should try and use words as little as possible.

• It is important to also include short words rather than long words so students
can understand what they are being taught.

• When presenting a slideshow it is also important to try and remember to only


use nouns, verbs, and key phrases on each slide.
GIVE EACH SLIDE A SINGLE
MESSAGE
• If a teacher is presenting a PowerPoint presentation to their class it is
important for them to give each slide a single message. If a slide has more
than one message the students may begin to not understand what is being
taught to them because to much information is being given out at once.

• One should make sure the message of that slide is clearly written out at the
top of the slide so students can recognize this.

• It is better to have more slides than a small number of complicated ones


which may cause confusion.
USE MUTED COLORS

• Muted colors have a tone that make them less bright and more subdued.
The result of muted colors is usually a softer and calmer color that is usually
easier to work with in any given situation.

• If a teacher was to put a very bright and vivid color on their presentation it
may be hard for some students to see what is written out.

• It is important to use muted colors with no unnecessary graphics or


animations that can be seen in any type of light condition.

• Teachers should test their presentation prior to teaching it to the class in


order to make sure everything can be seen even for students who do not
have the best seats. The use of muted colors can help with this endeavor.

REMEMBER THE RULE OF THREE
• The rule of three ties back into using minimal words and giving each slide on
a presentation a specific message.

• It is important to try and include 3 words per pullet point and 3 bullet-points
per slide.

• One can assume that anything that takes the students attention away from
the teacher for more than three seconds may be to complicated and needs
to be broken down into smaller pieces.

• The less one has on a slide the more easier it can be for students to grasp the
concept being taught to them.
GET INTERACTIVE
• It is human nature for students in a classroom to get bored resulting in their
attention drifting elsewhere when a lesson is being taught to them. However,
if a teacher makes a lesson interactive students are more likely to pay
attention to what is going on.

• A more brainstorming lesson can get all the students in the classroom to be
motivated and getting them to think in the same direction.

• As stated previously, whiteboards are a great visual aid. They can be used
for recording interaction with, and comments from, the students during a
brainstorming session.

• Interactive whiteboards can be used for PowerPoint presentations, to show


videos, and to write on and record interactions with the students.
PRINT AND DISTRIBUTE
• Many students in a given classroom may not be good at taking notes. For
example, some students might not take any notes at all, while others have a
hard time taking notes while also trying to retain the information being
taught to them at the same time.

• In order to eliminate this problem, many suggest that teachers should print
and distribute. This simply means, teachers should print out their slideshows
and shrink them down to fit onto sheets in order for the students to have the
exact notes right in front of them.

• This way the students can focus on what is being taught and also have the
notes to take home with them and have throughout the year if they ever
need to look back at them.
USE PICTURES
• As stated earlier, it is so important to use more pictures than words when
giving a presentation and or teaching a lesson to students.

• Many students get extremely bored when all they are looking at is dull and
boring words on a piece of paper or slide.

• Using pictures captivates audience to make them feel something.

• Pictures can help students to understand and remember what is being


taught while also increasing their ability to pay attention and raise their
interest in what they are learning about.

• Pictures are truly worth a thousand words when it comes to the use of
effective visuals.
