INTERSUBJECTIVITY

In order to better understand Intersubjectivity, we first
need to define a subject and an object.
- A subject is the person experiencing an
action or event.
- An object is what is being experienced.

OBJECTIVE - it is factually true.
SUBJECTIVE -it is based on an
opinion, or a biased viewpoint, not on
hard facts.

A good way to think about intersubjectivity is to imagine how you
relate to your family and friends. Maybe your mother enjoyed
playing tennis. She took you with her when she practiced, and you
always had a good time. Growing up, you decided to join the
school tennis team. If your mother had not played tennis with you
growing up, you may not have grown to like the sport. Your
experience with tennis can be called intersubjective because it
was influenced by another person (your mother). -

THE CARE
HEIRARCHY By Jack Meacham
Put simply, the Care Hierarchy is an ordered list of the

different ways in which we can share in the feelings of
others, especially their distress, sorrow, or unfulfilled
desires. As one progresses up the hierarchy, one in turn
becomes more connected and close to those with whom
they are interacting. Ideally, one should be attempting to
be as compassionate as possible while quelling thoughts
of apathy and pity.
On APATHY
Apathy is defined as a
distinct lack of
emotion or concern.
On PITY
Pity is defined as a feeling
of sadness or sorrow at
another’s plight
On SYMPATHY
SYMPATHY is a feeling of care and concern
for someone accompanied by a wish to see
them better off or happier. It is a cognitive
recognition of another person’s feelings
On EMPATHY
Empathy involves showing a
deep level of understanding
by actively entering into
another’s experience

Hunter Doherty "Patch" Adams (born
May 28, 1945) is an
American physician, comedian, social
activist, clown, and author.
He founded the Gesundheit! Institute

in 1971. Each year he organizes
volunteers from around the world to
travel to various countries where they
dress as clowns to bring humor to
orphans, patients, and other people.

Narayanan Krishnan was a bright, young, award-
winning chef with a five-star hotel group, short-
listed for an elite job in Switzerland.
He seeks out the homeless under bridges and in

the nooks and crannies between the city's
temples. The hot meals he delivers are simple,
tasty vegetarian fare he personally prepares,
packs and often hand-feeds to nearly 400 clients
each day.
Krishnan founded his nonprofit Akshaya Trust in

2003. Now 29, he has served more than 1.2
million meals -- breakfast, lunch and dinner -- to
India's homeless and destitute, mostly elderly
people abandoned by their families and often
abused.
