Solar Energy Powerpoint

Solar energy can be used for daylight, drying agricultural products, space heating, water heating, and generating electrical power through photovoltaics and concentrating solar power. Photovoltaics use solar cells to convert sunlight directly into electricity and are used at residential, commercial, and utility scales. Concentrating solar power uses mirrors to focus sunlight onto receivers that convert it to heat, which is then used to drive steam turbines. Common concentrating solar power technologies are trough systems, power towers, and dish engines. Solar power is a worthwhile investment in the Philippines due to incentives like zero percent VAT on renewable energy sales.

oConcentrating Solar Power
Generating Electrical Power

• Photovoltaics
• Concentrating Solar Power
• Residential
• Trough systems
• Commercial
• Power towers
• Utility
• Heat exchanger plus steam
• Photoelectric effect- the
turbine
higher brightness, the better
the flow of electricity.
Photovoltaics

How PV
cells work
Working of Solar Power Plant
Residential-scale solar

-typically installed on rooftops of homes or mounted on grounds with

supports, and it generates between 5 and 20 kilowatts per hour,
depending on the size of a property.
Commercial-scale solar

-generally installed at a scale that could support more than 20 times

than that of residential solar. Commercial-scale solar provide on-site
solar power to businesses and industries. For example, the SM North
Edsa solar project, which is powered by 5760 solar panels installed at
the rooftop of the multilevel parking buildings.
Utility-scale solar

-typically large projects that generate several megawatt installations that

provide solar energy to a large quantity, such as entire city. For example, the
63.3 MW Calatagan Solar Farm at the convergence of Calatagan, Lian and
Balayan towns, the largest solar facility completed in the Philippines up to
date.

Worth Investment

• Zero Percent Value-Added Tax Rate. - The sale of fuel

or power generated from renewable sources of energy
such as, but not limited to, biomass, solar, wind,
hydropower, geothermal, ocean energy and other
emerging energy sources using technologies such as fuel
cells and hydrogen fuels, shall be subject to zero percent
(0%) value-added tax (VAT), pursuant to the National
Internal Revenue Code (NIRC) of 1997, as amended by
Republic Act No. 9337.
Sample Investment

1. Installation of 300 W Solar Panel

Sun hours in the location = 5 hrs

Energy Saved per day= 0.3 kW * 5 hrs=1.5 kWh/day
Energy Saved per month= 1.5 kWh/day * 30 days/month= 45 kWh/month
Total Expenses= ₱839 + ₱14158 + ₱6000= ₱ 20,997
Savings per month= 45 kWh/month )(₱11/month) = ₱ 495

𝑇𝑜𝑡𝑎𝑙 𝐸𝑥𝑝𝑒𝑛𝑠𝑒𝑠 ₱20997
