Net Tech

The document discusses several topics related to internet technologies: 1. It provides a brief history of the origins of the Internet from ARPANET in 1969 and how various protocols developed over time to create a robust system able to support technologies like the World Wide Web. 2. It defines computer internet technology as the devices, software, hardware and transmission protocols used to connect computers together within networks small and large, such as the Internet. 3. It provides a short definition of social media as interactive computer technologies that facilitate sharing of information and expression through virtual communities and networks.

INTERNET

TECHNOLOGIES
•The Internet is a worldwide
collection of computer
networks that began as a single
network that was originally
created in 1969 by ARPA
(Advanced Research Projects
Agency), a U.S. government
agency that was far more
interested in creating projects
that would survive a nuclear
war than in creating anything
useful for the civilian
population.
•ARPANET was the network that
became the basis for the
Internet. Based on a concept
first published in
1967, ARPANET was developed
under the direction of the U.S.
Advanced Research Projects
Agency (ARPA). In 1969, the
idea became a modest reality
with the interconnection of four
university computers.
•The various protocols, including IP,
TCP, DNS, POP, and SMTP, took
shape over the years, and by the
time the World Wide Web (HTML and
HTTP) was created in the early 90's,
this "Internet" had become a fully
functional, fairly robust system of
network communication, able to
support this new pair of protocols
which eventually turned the Internet
into a household word.
INTERNET TECHNOLOGY
•Computer Internet technology refers to devices,
software, hardware and transmission protocols used
to connect computers together in order to receive or
send data from one computer to another within a
small network or as part of a small network within a
larger network, such as the Internet.
SOCIAL MEDIA
•Social media are interactive computer-
mediated technologies that facilitate the
creation and sharing of information,
ideas, career interests and other forms of
expression via virtual
communities and networks. The variety of
stand-alone and built-in social media
services currently available introduces
challenges of definition; however, there
are some common features:
VIRTUAL STORAGE
•Online data storage refers to the
practice of storing electronic data
with a third party service accessed
via the Internet. It is an alternative to
traditional localstorage (such as disk
or tape drives) and
portablestorage (such as optical
media or flash drives).
VIRTUAL SCHOOL
•An online school (virtual school or e-school or cyber-
school) teaches students entirely or primarily online or
through the internet. It has been defined as "education
that uses one or more technologies to deliver instruction
to students who are separated from the instructor and to
support regular and substantive interaction between the
students and the instructor synchronously or
asynchronously".

•Online education exists all around the world and is

used for all levels of education (K-12, college, or
graduate school). This type of learning enables the
individuals to earn transferable credits, take recognized
examinations, or advance to the next level of education
over the internet
WEB BROWSING
•A web browser (commonly
referred to as a browser) is
a software application for
accessing information on
the World Wide Web. Each
individual web page,
image, and video is
identified by a distinct URL,
enabling browsers to
retrieve and display them
on the user's device.
