The document discusses the Earth, the Moon, stars, constellations, galaxies, and planets in our solar system. It provides details on the Moon's orbit around Earth and phases. It describes stars of different temperatures and sizes. Constellations are groups of stars that form imaginary shapes, and galaxies contain billions of stars and dark matter held together by gravity. Our solar system's planets include Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.

UNIT - 1
THE EARTH AND THE SOLAR
SYSTEM The Earth The Earth and The Moon the earth is tilted on its axis
• The moon is about four times
smaller than the earth • It’s the earth’s only natural satellite • The moon orbits the earth and takes about 28 days and the same time to complete one rotation • The moons gravity is too weak to to have atmosphere • The moon receives sunlight from sun and gives some to the earth • We can only see the illuminating part facing the earth Although half of the Moon is always illuminated. We can only see the illuminated part facing the earth. This is why when we look at the moon at every night during the lunar month, its shape changes. The different shapes are called phases of moon. Stars ,Constellations and Galaxies • The luminosity of the star is spread out over the much larger surface area of the red giant and so they're cooler, On the opposite side of the spectrum are blue stars. These are stars with many times the mass of the Sun and so their surface temperatures are much hotter • A constellation is a group of stars that make an imaginary shape in the night sky. They are usually named after mythological characters, people, animals and objects. In different parts of the world, people have made up different shapes out of the same groups of bright stars. It is like a game of connecting the dots. • Galaxies. Our galaxy, the Milky Way, is typical: it has hundreds of billions of stars, enough gas and dust to make billions more stars, and at least ten times as much dark matter as all the stars and gas put together. And it's all held together by gravity. Galaxies 1. Our Solar System is a part of a spiral galaxy called the Milky way 2. Elliptical galaxies can be round or oval in shape 3. Irregular galaxies have no real shapes. Planets in the Solar System • Our solar system consists of eight planets which all orbit around our home star, the Sun. The solar system was formed a crazy 4.6 billion years ago. ... These eight planets are: • Mercury. • Venus. • Earth. • Mars. • Jupiter. • Saturn. • Uranus. • Neptune. THE END UNIT -1 Understanding the Diversity HELLO STUDENTS • Name the places you would like to go on a holiday?? • And WHY so??? LETS DO AN ACTIVITY • Divide the class into 4 groups- 1. Group 1 – draw your favorite food 2. Group 2 – draw your favorite dress 3. Group 3 – draw your favorite festival 4. Group 4 – draw your favorite animal
