MSDS documents must be available in the workplace for any hazardous chemicals and employees must be able to understand the information on them. An MSDS provides important safety information on a chemical like silver nitrate and includes requirements, hazards identified using HMIS ratings, first aid measures, firefighting measures, accidental release measures, handling and storage, exposure controls and personal protection, physical and chemical properties, stability and reactivity, toxicological information, ecological information, disposal considerations and transportation information. The MSDS must be replaced within 30 days if missing and chemicals cannot be used without an available MSDS.

• MSDS may be in printed form or available electronically
• MSDS that is missing must be replaced within 30 days
