HARDWARE MAINTENANCE

AND PROTECTION
What is the most important way to
keep your computer healthy?
Tips in cleaning your computer
 Clean the outer surface with simple cloth and
water solution.
 Apply antistatic spray or antistatic solution to
prevent buildup of static charges on computer
parts
 Use handy small paintbrush.
 Oxidation buildups or corrosion occur on
electrical connectors to reduce the flow of
electricity
 Remove and reinstall socket-mounted devices.
 Use a lent free foam swabs and isopropyl
alcohol for cleaning internal components.
Protecting Hardware
Heat Buildup
 Excessive heat can be cause
premature aging and failure of the
electronic components of the
computer:
 Make sure that the area is
uncluttered so that the air will flow
freely around the computer.
 Make sure that the power supply’s
fan is operational
Protecting Monitors
 Avoid using aerosol sprays, solvent

cords is disconnected from power
source before cleaning
 The screen should be dried with soft
cloth.
Protecting Input Devices
 Dust and clean the device
occasionally
 Use a lint free swab clean between
keys of the keyboard.
Troubleshooting Methodology
 A good PC Technician will follow some
sort of formalized troubleshooting
methods.
Step 1: Information
Gathering
 Identify what you want to accomplish
( Maintenance, Upgrade, Repair)
 Identify the component to work on.
 For repairs: Identify any symptoms,
determine if anything has changed,
and establish probable cause.
Step 2: Create an Action
Plan
 For maintenance and upgrades: tool
gathering, backup, parts
identification and action.
 For repairs: there is an step at the
begging: “Try a quick Fix”
Step 3:Implement and test the
Solution
 Try to a quick fix and then try the
most likely solution
Step 4: Identify the results
and effects of the solution
 Did the upgrade work?
 Did the maintenance work as
expected?
 Did the repair fix the problem?
Step 5: Documentation the solution
and process
