Electronic Voating Machine

This document is a project report on an electronic voting machine with fingerprint authentication submitted to the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering. The project aims to develop an electronic voting machine to replace traditional paper voting systems and address issues of fraud. The proposed system uses fingerprint biometrics to verify each voter's identity before allowing them to cast their vote. It consists of a control unit and balloting unit connected by cable. The votes are displayed on an LCD screen for voters to confirm.

PROJECT
DESCRIPTION

The project is made to

enhance the traditional
voting system.E.V.M.An
E.V.M. consist of two
units,control unit and
balloting units.Balloting
unit facilitates voting by
voter via labelled buttons
while control unit controls
the ballot unit,stores voting
counts and displays the
results on 7 segment led
displays.
GLIMPSE
 The basic idea of this project is to create an
electronic voting machine that will help to
eradicate defrauding of the manual voting
systems and prior versions of electronic
voting.

 The thesis looks into and proposes a

system that includes multiple layers of
verifications to ensure the reliability of the
device. With the inclusion of biometric
fingerprint sensor, each voter is entered
into the system only after being recognized
and checked with the given database of
enlisted voters. Once the corresponding
fingerprint is matched with the information
provided, the voter will be allowed to
proceed for choosing their preferred
candidate from the panel of buttons.

 The final vote is then displayed onto a LCD

for the satisfaction of voters. The proposed
project displays transparency and also
carries the feature of being autonomous
during the course of operation.
INTRODUCTION

 EVM machine is generally an electronic

voting machine which is designed to vote
on different parties .
 It has mainly two units;
a-control unit
b-balloting unit with cable for connecting it
with control unit .
 Electronic voting machine are being used in
Indian general and state electronics to
implement electronic voting in part from
1999 electronic and recently in 2017 state
electronics held in five states across
India.EVMs tamparability and security
which have not been proved.
 Electronics had now come in the pocket of
each and every citizen so in this trend of
automation electronics evm is the best
thing which could be made.Previously there
were to many peoples required to complete
the voting panel but with this machine had
changed the era of voting.

FUTURE SCOPE
 A timer could be included,which could
automatically end the voting after specified
duration of time.
 Biometric verification of voters , so that
automatically it can be insured that one person
is voting only ones.
 It can be more interactive by adding sound
assist system to it .
 EEPROM can be used to store the data
permanently .if we make more than one evm
each to be at different location and the final
result is the addition of result of all , we could
think of connecting them to communicate with
each other and final result can be displayed on
one lcd screen.
 UID data can be also fetched with the machines
to access the login of voters through fingerprint.
MERITS OF EVM

 It eliminates the possibility of

invalid and doubtful votes which,in
many cases are the root causes of
controversies and election petitions
 It makes process of counting of
votes much faster than the
conventional system.
 It reduces to a great extent the
quantity of paper used thus saving
a large number of trees making the
process eco-friendly.
 It reduces cost of printing as only
one sheet of ballot paper is required
for each polling station.
 It reduces transportation cost
related to transporting conventional
ballot papers and the ballot boxes in
which ballot papers are.
DEMERITS OF EVM

 With recent elections in the United States, many software

programmers have claimed that the electronic voting
machines are vulnerable to malicious programming and if it
gets affected then any hacker can hack the machine and can
tamper the vote counts easily.
 Many physically challenged people have complained that the
touch base screen is not efficient enough to capture the vote
accurately. Sometimes it leads to the voter ending up voting
for someone else unintentionally.
 Although it takes the time to count votes that were captured
using paper ballot but people fully trust the process as high
technology are also vulnerable to hackers attack.
 The biggest change with technology is that no matter how
much data it records but a single virus can destroy the entire
data storage. The electronic voting machines which were
used during the elections are susceptible to damage which
will result in loss of data.
 The highly humid area and those areas which receive
frequent rainfall are not suitable for casting votes using
electronic voting machines. As machines are prone to damage
due to high humidity level thus usage of electronic voting
machines are not advisable in such areas.
