The document discusses concerns about rising fuel costs, carbon emissions, and climate change and how they are influencing customers' priorities in vehicles to be more fuel efficient and produce lower emissions while maintaining performance. Toyota has been developing hybrid technology to meet these changing needs in the market.

The document discusses concerns about rising fuel prices, expanding energy consumption, and global warming caused by carbon dioxide emissions from fuel combustion. It also discusses how these issues are driving customer demands for improved fuel efficiency, lower emissions, and maintaining driving performance.

The document discusses how Toyota has been searching for the ultimate eco-friendly car and has developed hybrid technology using the Prius and other hybrid models as a key part of their strategy to address the changing market needs. It provides details on Toyota's hybrid technology and milestones in hybrid development.

What is
TOYOTA Hybrid System???
What is Hybrid System
Fusion between an internal combustion engine and
electric motor, achieving different function through
different power combinations to create optimum
synergy and output.

+
Series/Parallel Hybrid System
THS Types
This system combines the
series hybrid system with
the parallel hybrid system in
order to maximize the
benefits of both systems. It
has two motors, and
depending on the driving
conditions, uses only the
electric motor or the driving
power from both the electric
motor and the engine, in
order to achieve the highest
efficiency level.
Furthermore, when
necessary, the system
drives the wheels while
simultaneously generating
electricity using a generator.

Power-split Motor/Generator
Device
THS : How it Works
1. Start and low to mid-range speeds
The engine stops
when in an inefficient
range,
such as at start-up
and in low to mid-
range
speeds. The vehicle
runs on the motor
alone.
THS : How it Works
2. Driving under normal conditions
Engine power is divided
by the power split device.
Some of the power turns
the generator, which in
turn
drives the motor.
The rest of the power
drives the wheels directly.
Power allocation is
controlled to maximize
efficiency.
THS : How it Works
3. Sudden acceleration
Extra power is
supplied from the
battery, while the
engine and
high-output motor
provide smooth
response for improved
acceleration
characteristics.
THS : How it Works
4. Deceleration, braking
The high-output motor acts
as a high-output generator,
driven by the vehicle’s
wheels. This regenerative
braking
system recovers kinetic
energy as electrical
energy,
which is stored in the high-
performance battery.
THS : How it Works
5. Battery recharging
Battery level is
managed to maintain
sufficient reserves.
The engine
drives the generator
to recharge the
battery when
necessary.

Dibanding Prius, Civic Hybrid tidak sepenuhnya bermesin hybrid. Penggunaan motor
elektrik tidak maksimal sehingga lebih sering menggunakan mesin bensinnya dan
berakibat tingkat ekonomisnya rendah. Sebaliknya, Prius didesain dan dibangun
khusus untuk mobil hibrida dan Hybrid Synergy Drive bekerja lebih pintar
dibanding IMA milik Honda. Toyota juga menawarkan kenyamanan tinggi, mobil ini
lebih lengkap dan mudah digunakan sehari – hari, jadi Prius tampil sebagai juaranya.*
