Estimation
A company is planning a large telephone survey and is
interested in assessing how long it will take. In a short pilot study, 40 people are contacted by telephone and asked the specified set of questions. The times of these telephone surveys have a sample mean of 9.39 minutes with standard deviation of 1.041 minutes. Construct a 95 % confidence interval. Estimation An article in the journal of material engineering describes the loads of specimens as following information 15.4, 11.4, 19.5, 10.1, 18.5, 14.1, 8.8, 14.9, 7.9, and 11.4. If population standard deviation is 4 find the 99% confidence interval for the mean. Estimation In order to ensure efficient usage of a server, it is necessary to estimate the mean number of concurrent users. According to records, the average number of concurrent users at 100 randomly selected times is 37.7, with standard deviation 9.2. Construct a 92 % confidence interval. Estimation A random Sample of 10 boys had the followings I.Q’s 70, 120, 110, 101, 88, 83, 95, 107, 100, and 98. Find the 95% confidence interval for the population mean. Assume that IQ’s are normally distributed and the variance is not known. Testing Of Hypothesis A process is in control when the average amount of instant coffee that is packed in a jar, is 6 oz. The standard deviation is 0.2 oz. A sample of 100 jars is selected at random and the sample average is found to be 6.1 oz. Is the process out of control? Estimation and Testing of Hypothesis In order to ensure efficient usage of a server, it is necessary to estimate the mean number of concurrent users. According to records, the average number of concurrent users at 100 randomly selected times is 37.7, with standard deviation 9.2. Construct a 90 % one sided confidence interval that provides an upper limit on average number of concurrent users.[tabulated value=1.282] At the 1% significance level, do these data provide significance evidence that the mean number of concurrent users is greater than 35? [tabulated value=2.326] Estimation and Testing of Hypothesis A company is planning a large telephone survey and is interested in assessing how long it will take. In a short pilot study, 40 people are contacted by telephone and asked the specified set of questions. The times of these telephone surveys have a sample mean of 9.39 minutes with standard deviation of 1.041 minutes. Can the company safely conclude that the telephone surveys will last on average no more than 10 minutes each?[𝛼 = 3%] Construct a 95 % one sided confidence interval that provides an upper limit on average time of each telephone call. Testing of Hypothesis Trying to encourage people to stop driving to campus, the university claims that on average it takes people 30 minutes to find a parking space on campus. I don’t think it takes so long to find a spot. In fact I have a sample of the last five times I drove to campus, and I calculated mean 20. Assuming that the time it takes to find a parking spot is normal, and that 𝜎= 6 minutes, then perform a hypothesis test with level α=4% to see if my claim is correct.
