Raw Material Supply Certification of Standards for

Export
The various authority involved in the certification of product to
be exported are:

APEDA
 MPEDA
 BVQI
 SGS
 BIS
 BQS
APEDA
 The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA)
was established by the Government of India under the Agricultural and Processed Food
Products Export Development Authority Act passed by the Parliament in December, 1985.
The Act (2 of 1986) came into effect from 13th February, 1986 by a notification issued in
the Gazette of India:). The Authority replaced the Processed Food Export Promotion
Council (PFEPC).

 Assigned Functions:
• Development of industries relating to the scheduled products for export by way of
providing financial assistance.
• Registration of persons as exporters of the scheduled products on payment of such fees as
may be prescribed.
• Fixing of standards and specifications for the scheduled products for the purpose of
exports.
• Carrying out inspection of meat and meat products in slaughter houses, processing plants,
storage premises, conveyances or other places where such products are kept or handled for
the purpose of ensuring the quality of such products;.
• Improving of packaging of the Scheduled products.
• Improving of marketing of the Scheduled products outside India.
• Promotion of export oriented production and development of the Scheduled products.
• Training in various aspects of the industries connected with the scheduled products.

• Fruits, Vegetables and their Products.
• Meat and Meat Products.
• Poultry and Poultry Products.
• Dairy Products.
• Confectionery, Biscuits and Bakery Products.
• Honey, Jaggery and Sugar Products.
• Cocoa and its products,
• chocolates of all kinds. Alcoholic and Non-Alcoholic Beverages.
• Cereal and Cereal Products.
• Groundnuts, Peanuts and Walnuts.
• Pickles, Papads and Chutneys.
• Guar Gum. Floriculture and Floriculture Products.
• Herbal and Medicinal Plants.
Any exporter may get registered with APEDA as per the guidelines for
registration.
The Registration can be done through two ways.
I. Through APEDA Head office or Regional office.
For getting registered through any APEDA office an exporter has to fill the registration form
and submit along with the following documents:
1. Application form duly filled and signed by authorized signatory.
2. Self certified copy of Import-Export code issued by D.G.F.T.
3. List of Directors/Partners/Proprietor on company’s letterhead in triplicate
4. Pvt. Ltd./Public Ltd. Co.’s/societies should forward a copy of their Memorandum and Article of
Association and Partnership firms should forward a copy of partnership deed attested by notary.
5. Self certified copy of PAN issued by Income Tax Department.
6. The company should compulsorily mention their e-mail ID, phone and fax number etc. in their
application.
7. In case the exporter desires to register as Manufacturer Exporter, he should furnish the copy of
company’s registration with FFO, Directorate of Industries, State Dept. of
Horticulture/Agmark/EIA etc.
8. Bank certificate duly signed by the Authorities.
9. Cash or DD/Pay Order of Rs. 5000/- towards registration may be made in favor of APEDA
payable to Specific APEDA office where the request has been made for Seeking RCMC.
II. Online - Any exporter get registered through APEDA website by paying Rs.5000/- through
credit card.
MPEDA
1. Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) established on 20th April
1972 by an Act of the Parliament.
2. MPEDA was given the mandate to promote the export of seafood from the country.
3. It was also envisaged that this organisation would take all actions to develop and augment
the resources required for promoting the exports of “all varieties of fishery products
known commercially as shrimp, prawn, lobster, crab, fish, shell-fish, other aquatic
animals or plants .
4. The Act also empowered MPEDA to take all measures required for ensuring sustained,
quality seafood exports from the country.
5. Anticipating increased raw material requirements
6. It was also empowered to carry out inspection of marine products, its raw material, fixing
standards and specifications, training, regulating as well as take all necessary steps for
marketing the seafood overseas.

A glance at the roles and responsibilities of MPEDA


 Registration of infrastructural facilities for seafood export trade.
 Collection and dissemination of trade information
 Promotion of Indian marine products in overseas markets.
Promotion of aquaculture for augmenting export production through hatchery development,
new farm development, diversification of species and up gradation of technology
Promotion of deep-sea fishing projects through test fishing, joint ventures and up gradation &
installation of equipments to increase the efficiency of fishing.
Market promotional activities and publicity.
To carry out inspection of marine products, its raw material, fixing standards and
specifications, training, regulating as well as to take all necessary steps for maintaining the
quality of seafood that are marketed overseas
Impart trainings to fishermen, fish processing workers, aquaculture farmers and other stake
holders in the respective fields related to fisheries.
Conduct research and development for the aquaculture of aquatic species having export
potential through Rajiv Gandhi Center for Aquaculture (RGCA).
To prescribe for itself any matters required for protecting and augmenting the seafood exports
from the country in the future.

Bureau of Indian Standards
1. The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the national Standards Body of India working under the
aegis of Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Government of India. It is
established by the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986 which came into effect on 23 December
1986. For the development of the activities of standardization, marking and quality certification of
goods and for matters connected with goods.

2. BIS has been providing traceability and tangibility benefits to the national economy in a number of
ways - providing safe reliable quality goods; minimizing health hazards to consumers; promoting
exports and imports substitute; control over proliferation of varieties etc. through standardization,
certification and testing.
3. To support the activities of product certification, BIS has a chain of 8 laboratories. These
laboratories have established testing facilities for products of chemical, food, electrical and
mechanical disciplines. Approximately, 25000 samples are being tested in the BIS laboratories every
year. In certain cases where it is economically not feasible to develop test facilities in BIS
laboratories and also for other reasons like overloading of samples, equipment being out of order,
the services of outside approved laboratories are also being availed.
4. Product Certifications are to be obtained voluntarily. For, some of the products like Milk powder,
Drinking Water, LPG Cylinders, Thermometers etc., certification is mandatory. Because these
products are concerned with health and safety.
