Flow Calculation Program Overview
• Version 4.00
– 64-bit software fully supports Windows 7 & 8
– Includes Impulse Valve technology
– Includes the new 150 LB cylinders
– Includes new pressure venting calculations
– Allows the selection of the old GCA containers
– Calculation routines complies with U.L. 2166 Standard
Flow Calculation Program Overview
• Obsolete versions - v1.34, v2.00, v2.04, & v3.00
– Not in compliance with U.L. 2166 standard
– New systems calculated with these versions are not U.L.
listed or FM approved
– Does not support Fike 4BW containers
Note:
Obsolete version files will NOT run on new version 4.00
platform!!

Flow Calculation Program Overview
• Minimum flow rate not exceeded.
– The minimum flow rate for the pipe size of the
given branch is not exceeded.
Possible Corrections
1. Reduce pipe size of identified branch.
2. Utilize a larger cylinder to reduce the discharge time and
increase flow rate.
3. Increase nozzle orifice sizes to reduce the discharge time
and increase the flow rate.

Flow Calculation Program Overview
• Maximum arrival time imbalance exceeded between
nozzles X and Y.
– The difference between liquid arrival times at two
of the nozzles exceeds the 1.0 second allowed
maximum.
Possible Corrections
1. Re-route pipe leading to nozzle arrived at first or relocating
this nozzle to increase length of pipe. Change nozzle type (i.e.
180 degree versus 360 degree) may help.
2. Re-route pipe leading to nozzle arrived at last or relocating
this nozzle to decrease length of pipe. Change nozzle type
(i.e. 180 degree versus 360 degree) may help.

Flow Calculation Program Overview
• Maximum run out time imbalance exceeded between
nozzles X and Y.
– The difference between nozzle liquid run out times at
two of the nozzles exceeds the 2.1 second allowed
maximum.
Possible Corrections
1. Re-route pipe leading to nozzle running out first or relocating
nozzle to increase length of pipe.
2. Re-route pipe leading to nozzle running out last or relocating
nozzle to decrease length of pipe.

Flow Calculation Program Overview
• Choked flow feeding nozzle X.
– If the piping network leading to a nozzle is too
small relative to the nozzle orifice area, choked
flow may occur in that branch.
Possible Corrections
1. Check for branch too small to handle required flow error
for a branch feeding identified nozzle.
2. Increase feed pipe size(s) or reduce nozzle orifice area.
3. If more than one nozzle identified, check branches
feeding both.
Flow Calculation Program Overview
• Critical pipe length not exceeded.
– The length of pipe before and after a tee is less
than the 10 minimum diameters required.
Possible Corrections
1. Increase length of pipe segment.
2. Decrease size of pipe segment.
