Flat Bed Reactor Loading& Unloading

This training covers catalyst handling techniques for flat bed reactors. It discusses the tools and equipment used, including vacuum cyclones, drums, and forklifts. Best practices like permitting, PPE, and drum handling are also covered. The document outlines the unloading technique of using vacuum hoses to remove spent catalyst from the reactor and load it into drums. It then describes the loading technique which involves prebagging new catalyst into drums near the reactor and using a hopper and loading sock to distribute it evenly in the vessel.

Topic Two
Best Practices
Best Practices

Below are the Equipment's Tools and Tackles that will be

used:
• No permit no work
• Always carefully read the details of permit and follow recommendations
• Ensure mandatory training and authorization is obtained as prescribed by
plant EHSS
• Install air mover and perform continuous Gas monitoring
• Use approved Drum Handling Techniques
• Use appropriate personnel protection-Dust Mask, Gloves, Full body
coverage, Fresh air in vessel
• Do not roll drums
• Do not lift on forks of fork lift trucks
• Do not stack more than 4 high even on Pallets
• Keep lids on
• Do not expose to high temperatures, Moisture or sunlight
Topic Three
Unloading Technique
Unloading Technique

UNLOADING TECHNIQUE
• Line up of Equipments- Vacum Cyclone loader, Drums for Spent
Catalyst, Forklift, Pallets
• Install air movers and perform continuous gas monitoring.
• Layup of Vacum Hoses inside Reactor
• Unloading of Catalyst by vacuming
• Using Dry Cyclone Sucker removing of catalyst and loading into Drums
or Jumbo bags.
• Net Weight and Gross weight of the filled spent catalyst drums to be
recorded.
• After Unloading inspection by plant reliability Department for
Mechanical integrity and by Operations and Process Department for
relevant inspection.
Loading Technique

LOADING TECHNIQUE
• Line up of Equipments- Loading Hopper, Crane, Forklift, New Catalyst
Drums, Loading Sock, Scaffolds for prebagging.
• Lineup of New Catalyst Drums near reactor for prebagging.
• Prepare a scaffold platform around Hopper for loading new catalyst
drums to Hopper.
• Using forklift transfer Drums on the scaffold platform and manually
loading catalyst in to hopper.
• Attach loading sock to the Hopper’s outlet Nozzle
• Lift the loading Hopper and hold it near location of loading.
• Open the Hoppers outlet Nozzle and using loading sock load inside the
vessel.
• Using a approved technique ensure uniform loading in all areas of bed.
• Inspection to be done by Operations and process Departmen for
proper loading.
