Molina received numerous awards such as the
Conductor of the Year Award(1953) from the Music
Lovers’ Society, the UP Conservatory Alumni Award
and the Phi Kappa Beta Award(1953). He was the
first musician to be conferred the National Artist for
Music Award (June 12, 1973).
He was a product of both the Romantic and
Impressionist schools of thought, this gave him the title:
“FATHER OF PHILIPPINE IMPRESSIONIST ARTIST”.
And also known as the Claude Debussy of
the Philippines due to his use if impressionism in
music.
He was a Filipino composer, conductor, and
music administrator. He wrote over 500 musical
composition, including “Hatinggabi” and “Awit in
Maria Clara”. He is best known for his
poignantly romantic serenade for violin and
piano of Hatinggabi.

Ramon Santos is a Filipino composer,

musicologist, and ethnomusicologist.
Santos’ compositional style features
chromaticism, music seria, and electronic
components, combined with indigenous
Philippine music elements.
He composed the popular song
Dahil Sa Iyo in 1938. In 1975 the
Philippine Government Cultural
Association awarded him the Cultural
Achievement Award in Popular Music.
He received the Gawad CCP para sa
Sining in 1986.
He was conferred the title of
National Artist for Music in 2014.

Long before Lea Salonga’s break into
Broadway, there was already Jovita Fuentes’
portrayal of “Cio-cio-san in Giacomo Puccini’s
Madame Butterfly” at Italy’s Teatro Municipale di
Piacenza. Her performance was hailed as the
“most subline interpretation of the part”.
Jovita Fuentes was recognized as National
Artist of the Philippines for Music in 1976.
Fuentes garnered numerous award other
awards and citations, including the Presidential
Medal of Merit in Music in 1958.
Fuentes became a teacher at the UP
Conservatory of Music and other schools. She
established the Artists’ Guild of the Philippines
that called for Filipino artists to make their own
operas.

A music instructor and band conductor of the
Philippine Military Academy(PMA).
Composer, Conductor, and Teacher.
He was a student in composition and
conducting and the captain of cadet corps of
the university when he organized the first
student orchestra, the UP Junior Orchestra.

Some of the outstanding work that he wrote:
“Minuet”(1937), which borrowed largely
from Igorot tunes for its thematic thrust.
“Padanggo sa ilaw”(1936), the dance
involved from Fandango, a Spanish folk dance,
which arrived in the Philippines during the
Hispanic period.

She was also an adjudicator in numerous
international choral competitions and was an active
force in coral music before her massive stroke in
2005.
She was a Filipina choral conductor and a
recipient of the National Artist of the Philippines for
Music Award.
 She founded the Philippine Madrigal Singers in

He is also known for using the leaf as a
