Introduction:

Our purpose is to create awareness regarding

importance of trees to our planet, so that we can
save existing trees, we can plant more trees to
create a green world free of pollution.
Why are trees so important?

• Trees are an important part of every

community.
• Our streets, parks, playgrounds and backyards
are lined with trees that create a peaceful,
aesthetically pleasing environment.
• Trees contribute to their environment by
providing oxygen, improving air quality, climate
amelioration, conserving water, preserving soil,
and supporting wildlife.
Why are trees so important?

• According to the U.S. Department of

Agriculture, "One acre of forest absorbs six
tons of carbon dioxide and puts out four tons
of oxygen. This is enough to meet the annual
needs of 18 people.“
• Trees control climate by moderating the
effects of the sun, rain and wind.
Deforestation
What is Deforestation?

• Deforestation is the permanent destruction of

forests in order to make the land available for
other uses.
• According to the United Nations' Food and
Agriculture Organization (FAO), an estimated
18 million acres (7.3 million hectares) of
forest, which is roughly the size of the country
of Panama, are lost each year.
Deforestation in Pakistan
• The Global Forest Watch Initiative of the
World Resources Institute was recently
launched and it includes Global Forest Cover
Change Mapping. The forest change for
Pakistan is an eye-opener because the total
tree cover loss between 2000 and 2013 is
10,022.4 hectare (ha), while the gain is only
847.3 ha.
World without Trees:

• Global warming will increase leading to

melting of glaciers and a rise in sea level.
This will disturb the entire chain of life on
earth.
• The water cycle will get disturbed, many
species of animals will lose their habitats and
we will in turn loose the huge bio-diversity
that we are now proud of.
• Air Quality will decrease to dangerous level.
The Mega city, Lahore is covered in thick
Smog

• Lahore is turned into a gas chamber, a toxic cloud of

chemicals and smoke enveloping the great city.
• According to fresh readings obtained through the
monitoring equipment, the level of carbon monoxide
was 21.29 (milligram per metre) on The Mall, 17.52 in
Mohlanwal, and 6.94 in Gulberg’s Liberty Market as
against the maximum permissible limit of 5.

Measures to Save Trees:

• Reforestation:
This method requires that every tree that gets
cut down must be replanted.
• Protect existing forests:
In addition to the threat that humans pose for
forests, they are also endangered by parasitic
fungi, rusts and viruses. An effort should be
made to administer pesticide or some other
treatment in order to destroy the parasites.
Measures to Save Trees:

• Regular and planned cutting of trees.

1.Clear cutting 2. Selective cutting 3. Shelter wood
cutting.
• The government must take action to save
forests by passing acts against illegal cutting of
trees.
Conclusion
If not Earth then where do we
think life will exist?
