1.1 Background of the Study

Depression, anxiety and stress could be in


everyone’s life. From the president to normal
people like us and even on the students who do
lots of school works and balancing personal life
and academic life. The reason why we conducted
this research is to know more about the behavior
of students and if mental health problems really
affect their learning.

1.3 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Mental health problems such as depression, anxiety


and stress cause different things depending on an
individual’s perspective in a certain problem/situation.
These problems involving the mental health do not have
specific treatment, some take anti-depressants, some
cut their wrists to gain satisfaction by self-harm, some
seek for the help of a psychologist but still their problem
(specifically depression is not assured to be solved
COMPLETELY.
OBJECTIVES

To know if mental health affects students’


learning or performance.
To identify ways on how to adjust with the
mental health issues.
To determine the frequency of how mental
health is towards the students.
1.4 SIGNIFANCE OF THE STUDY

This study aims to know what are the main factors


and sub-factors that affects students’ performance
in school. This also aims to prove if mental
problems really affect a students’ academic
performance. The result of the study provides a
basis for future researchers.
SCOPE AND DELIMITATIONS

The principal subjects of this study are the senior


highschool students in Bacoor City, Cavite. Its
main purpose is to provide if mental health really
affects academic performance.
The questionnaire will be related to different kind
of mental health problems. It will be given to 50
respondents from senior highschools and an
interview on 3 selected SHS students.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

 Depression is defined as psychiatric disorder and the common


mental illness of present century which is known as psychiatric
cold. Depression has negative effects on our behaviors such
as loss of interest, productivity, and social contact. The 11th
leading cause of death is suicide in United States Suicide,
which occurs approximately every 16 minutes and psychiatric
disorder have diagnosed at the time of their death in almost all
the people who commit suicide. Through positive mood we
feel good, which this has positive consequences and motivate
us to do what we needs.

Learning?

Individuals with depression may be unable to


complete tasks that require high-motor and
cognitive skills. They may feel confused,
scatterbrained, overwhelmed or easily frustrated.
Even basic everyday tasks become difficult.

Depression can be a hindrance to every aspect of


a person’s life, especially one’s academic
performance. According to the Centre for
Addiction and Mental Health (2012), clinical
depression is defined as a mood disorder caused
by many factors, including genetic predisposition,
personality, stress and brain chemistry.
