Our Lady
Dolours
5th Sunday of Lent

9am Mass
24 September 2017
Entrance:
Gather Us In
Here in this place, new light is
streaming
Now is the darkness vanished
away,
See, in this space, our fears
and our dreamings,
Brought here to you in the
light of this day.
Gather us in the lost and
forsaken
gather us in the blind and the
lame;
call to us now, and we shall
awaken
we shall arise at the sound of
our name.
We are the young – our lives
are a mystery
we are the old – who yearns
for your face.
we have been sung throughout
all of history
called to be light to the whole
human race.
Gather us in the rich and the
haughty
gather us in the proud and the
strong
give us a heart so meek and
so lowly
give us the courage to enter
the song.
Gather us in the lost and
forsaken
gather us in the blind and the
lame;
call to us now, and we shall
awaken
we shall arise at the sound of
our name.
In the name of the Father, and
of the Son, and of the Holy
Spirit.
Amen.

The grace of our Lord Jesus

Christ,
and the love of God,
and the communion of the
Holy Spirit be with you all.
And with your spirit. 9
Mass of St Francis:
Lord Have Mercy
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy
Christ, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy
Lord, have mercy.
First Reading:
Isaiah 55:6-9
First Reading • Isaiah 55:6-9

Seek the Lord while he is still to

be found,
call to him while he is still near.
Let the wicked man abandon his
way,
the evil man his thoughts.
First Reading • Isaiah 55:6-9

Let him turn back to the Lord who

will take pity on him,
to our God who is rich in
forgiving;
for my thoughts are not your
thoughts,
my ways not your ways – it is the
Lord who speaks.
First Reading • Isaiah 55:6-9

Yes, the heavens are as high

above earth
as my ways are above your ways,
my thoughts above your
thoughts.

Second Reading:
Philippians 1:20-
24,27
Second Reading • Philippians 1:20-
24,27

Christ will be glorified in my body,

whether by my life or by my
death. Life to me, of course, is
Christ, but then death would bring
me something more; but then
again, if living in this body means
doing work which is having good
results – I do not know what I
should choose.
Second Reading • Philippians 1:20-
24,27

I am caught in this dilemma: I

want to be gone and be with
Christ, which would be very much
the better, but for me to stay alive
in this body is a more urgent need
for your sake. Avoid anything in
your everyday lives that would be
unworthy of the gospel of Christ

Seek ye First the
Kingdom of God
And His righteousness
And all these things
shall be added unto
you

Gospel Reading:
Matthew 20:1-16
Gospel • Matthew 20:1-16

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘The

kingdom of heaven is like a
landowner going out at daybreak
to hire workers for his vineyard.
He made an agreement with the
workers for one denarius a day,
and sent them to his vineyard.
Going out at about the third
hour he saw

others standing idle in the market

place and said to them, “You go to
my vineyard too and I will give
you a fair wage.” So they went. At
about the sixth hour and again at
about the ninth hour, he went out
and did the same. Then at about
the eleventh hour he went out
and found more

men standing round, and he said

to them, “Why have you been
standing here idle all day?”
“Because no one has hired us”
they answered. He said to them,
“You go into my vineyard too.” In
the evening, the owner of the
vineyard said to his bailiff,
“Call the workers and pay

them their wages, starting with

the last arrivals and ending with
the first.” So those who were hired
at about the eleventh hour came
forward and received one
denarius each. When the first
came, they expected to get more,
but they too received one
denarius each. They

took it, but grumbled at the

landowner. “The men who came
last” they said “have done only
one hour, and you have treated
them the same as us, though we
have done a heavy day’s work in
all the heat.” He answered one of
them and said, “My friend, I am
not being unjust to

you; did we not agree on one

denarius? Take your earnings and
go. I choose to pay the last comer
as much as I pay you. Have I no
right to do what I like with my
own? Why be envious because I
am generous?” Thus the last will
be first, and the first, last.

Priest:
The Gospel of the
Lord.

All:
Praise to you Lord,
Jesus
Christ.
Apostle’s Creed
I believe in God, the Father
almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, his only Son,
our Lord, who was conceived
by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
He descended into hell;
on the third day He rose again
from the dead;
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand
of God the Father almighty;
from there He will come to judge
the living and the dead.
43
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.

Amen.
44
The Niacene Creed
We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
and of all that is, seen and
unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus

Christ, the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
begotten, not made, one in Being
with the Father.
Through him all things were
made.
For us men and for our salvation,
he came down from heaven:

by the power of the Holy Spirit

he was born of the Virgin Mary,
and became man.

For our sake he was crucified

he suffered, died, and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in fulfilment of the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of
the Father.

He will come again in glory to

judge
the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no
end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father
and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he
is worshipped and glorified.
He has spoken through the
Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic
and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism
for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of
the dead,
and the life of the world to come.

Amen.
Prayers of the Faithful
Response:

Lord, hear our prayers.

Offertory:
Take and Receive
Take and receive, Oh lord
my liberty
Take all my will,
My mind, my memory;
All things I hold
And all I own are thine,
Thine was the gift
To thee, I all resign
Do thou direct
And govern all and sway;
Do what thou wilt, command
And I obey
Only thy grace,
Thy love on me bestow
These make me rich,
All else will I forego.
Invitation to Prayer
(All rise)
Pray, brethren (brothers and sisters), that my
sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to
God, the almighty Father.

May the Lord accept the sacrifice

at your hands
for the praise and glory of his
name,
for our good and the good of all his
holy Church.
The Eucharistic Prayer
The Lord be with you.
And with your spirit.

Lift up your hearts.

We lift them up to the
Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our

God.

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those
who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power
and the glory are yours now
and forever.
The peace of the Lord be with you always.
And with your spirit.
Let us offer each other the sign of peace.
