between Excel models and OR.

optimization, with the aim of reaching
optimal solutions or close to them.

LINEAR PROGRAMMING:
A typical mathematical program consists of a single objective function, representing either a profit
to be maximized or a cost to be minimized, and a set of constraints that circumscribe the decision
variables.
Example:
• NETWORK FLOW PROGRAMMING
• The term network flow program
describes a type of model that is a
special case of the more general
linear program.

• INTEGER PROGRAMMING
• Integer programming is concerned
with optimization problems in which
some of the variables are required to
take on discrete values.
• Nonlinear Programming Chains
• When expressions defining the objective function or
constraints of an optimization model are not linear, one has
a nonlinear programming model
• Is one in which the decision variables are expressed as non-
linear functions, either in the objective function and / or
constraints of an optimization model.

• DYNAMIC PROGRAMMING
• Dynamic programming (DP) models are represented in a
different way than other mathematical programming models.
• Rather than an objective function and constraints, a DP
model describes a process in terms of states, decisions,
transitions and returns.

CONCLUSION
• The investigation of operations can be defined as a scientific method of
problem solving, which provides sufficient tools so that based on
abstractions of reality can be generated and solve mathematical models
in order to develop an analysis and conclude the same for thus be able to
sustain quantitatively the decisions made regarding the problem situation.
