• -is most often used to
describe the growing
integration of economics
worldwide through increases
in trade, investment flows, and
technology transfer.
Globalization
• If you look at the tag on your shirt,
chances are you would see that it was
made in a country other than the one
in which you sit right now. What's
more, before it reached your
wardrobe, this shirt could have very
well been made with Chinese cotton
sewed by Thai hands, shipped across
the Pacific on a French freighter
crewed by Spaniards to a Los Angeles
harbor.

• Globalization is the process of
increased interconnectedness
among countries most notably in
the areas of economics, politics,
and culture. McDonalds in
Japan, French films being played
in Minneapolis, and the United
Nations, are all representations
of globalization.

• There is a growing understanding that
the neo-liberalism version of
globalization, particularly as implemented
(and ideologically defended) by bilateral,
multilateral, and international
organizations, is reflected in an
educational agenda that privileges, if not
directly imposes , particularly policies for
evaluation, financing assessment,
standards, teacher training, curriculum,
instruction and testing.

A transition from Fordist to Post-Fordist
forms of workplace organization;

A rise in internationalized advertising


and consumption patterns;

A reduction in barriers to the free flow of


goods, workers and investments across
national borders;
A correspondingly, new pressures on the
role of workers and consumers on
society.

sovereignty or at least the erosion
of national autonomy, and,
correspondingly, a weakening of
the notion of the “citizen” as a
unified and unifying concepts, a
concept that can be
characterized by precise roles,
rights, obligations and status.
Cultural Terms
a tension between the ways in
which globalization brings
forth more standardization
and cultural homogeneity,
while also bringing more
fragmentation through the
rise of locally oriented
movements.
Is Globalization a Good
Thing?
• There is a heated debate about the
true effects of globalization and if it
really is such a good thing. Good or
bad, though, there isn't much
argument as to whether or not it is
happening. Let's look at the positives
and negatives of globalization, and
you can decide for yourself whether
or not it is the best thing for our
world.
