CONCLUSION

 Thus we can say that the success of

Olympics would not have been possible
without information technology. Such
precision and real time information sharing
which is the essence of such an event is not
possible without IT.
QUESTION AND ANSWERS

Q.1- Could the 2004 Athens Olympics have

been a success without all of the networks
and backup technologies?
As we have seen earlier in the case that the
requirements for making the Olympics successful were
to manage:

 Arrival and departure of athletes and VIPs

 Transportation

 Planning and operation of accreditation

 Sports entries and qualifications

 Information dissemination
 All this could not have been possible without
the use of information systems.

 The essence of the event was to provide real

time information.
Q2- The 2004 Olympics is a global business.
Can a business today succeed without
information technology? Why or why not?
 IT is a competitive advantage for any
company.

 Every company needs IT to increase the

profitability.

 Helps cut costs.

 Helps in decision making.

EXAMPLE:
 Walmart has cut down its cost especially
inventory cost to a huge extent through the
help of just in time inventory, only possible
through application of IT. Use SCM system

 Amazon.com used IT as a new channel for

selling their products.
 Hilton hotels increased their customer
loyalty through the efficient CRM software
solutions, only possible through use of IT.

 Indian Railways introduced PRS- passenger

reservation system.
 Q.3- Claude Philipps said ‘dealing with crazy
scenarios of what might happen in every
area: a network problem, staff stopped in
traffic jam, a security attack…everything
that might happen’, was the reason for so
much testing ‘crazy scenario’ testing?
Explain.
 Thereare many businesses that require this
type of crazy scenario testing.

 One of them are the cricket world cups .Just

like the Olympics they also require the use of
IT.

 Sometimes hosted by 2-3 nations together.

 Security needs.

 Coverage of the event- Stump cameras,

Hoover cameras, Replays for decision
making.

 Information in seconds to commentators

regarding statistics, rankings, records.
 Live feeds to websites

 Feeds for print and electronic media.
