Linus Torvalds is the creator of the Linux kernel. He was born in 1969 in Finland to parents Anna Torvalds and Nils Torvalds. From 1988 to 1996, Linus studied computer science and was inspired by Richard Stallman to create the Linux kernel, which became a free and open-source operating system alternative to proprietary Unix.
