PESHAWAR METRO BUS SERVICE

(BRT)
INTRODUCTION

 Peshawar metro is a bus rapid transit


 Started construction in 29 oct 2017 under the pda
 Construction of the east-west corridor will be completed in three phases
 Phase 1: Chamkani to Balahisar Fort
 Phase 2: Balahisar Fort to Aman Chowk
 Phase 3: Aman Chowk to Karkhano Market
 system will have 31 stations with initial 255 buses
 Total distance 26 km long
 Between each station 850 m distance
WHY BRT?

 Increase public transport travel speed


 Saving travel time
 Comfortable and Cost effective mobility
 It is save and cheap urban mobility
 Improve public transport conditions
BUDJETING AND FINANCING

 Project a cost of ₨68.9 billion 88% of funding is being provided by the Asian Development Bank.
 Intatial cost is 49 billion now reach 68 billion
REASONS AND FAILURE

 Negligence in execution of work


 Poor management of the project
 The main reason of failure and delayed of the project is corruption
 During Pakistan general elections 2018 recent allegations raised against KPK govt on which one of the asst.
resident engineer has resigned by saying that there is a lot of corruption going on in this project due to which it
has been delayed

 General Manager (Operations) Tariq Mehmood has rejected the allegations and said the assistant resident
engineer was sacked from his job due to his poor performance and incompetence
 PESHAWAR METRO project has no proper drainage system
 its so expensive project in Pakistan
RECOMMENDATIONS

 BRT management to install drainage systems wherever needed.
