Objective
• To ensure all potentially hazardous hot works are
carried out under the safest conditions possible.

• When work to be performed has the
potential to generate heat enough to
cause an ignition like working with a spark
or a flame producing equipment.

Hot Work in General Areas
• Welding equipment, machines, cable, and other
apparatus shall be located so that it does not present
a hazard to personnel. Good housekeeping shall be
maintained

• Before Hot work starts in a location not
designated for such purposes, inspection
and authorization be done and shall be
required.

• No Welding or cutting shall be done unless
the atmosphere is nonflammable and unless
combustibles are moved away or protected
from fire hazards

• All cracks or openings in the floor shall be
covered or closed or precautions shall be
taken to protect flammable or combustible
materials on the floor below from sparks
which might drop through the openings.

• Hot Work shall not be started until the
containers and pipe lines has been prepared
for hot work. (e.g. flushing, purging, venting,
isolating, draining, blinding)

• All flammable and combustible materials
within a 35-foot (10.5mts) radius of hot
work must be removed

• Floors and surfaces within a 35-foot radius
of the hot work area must be swept free of
combustible dust or debris

• Install fire box to secure the place and
protect combustible gas or materials from
contact to slugs/sparks produced by
spark-producing equipment.

• Ventilation in confined spaces shall be sufficient to
assure adequate oxygen for life support.

• Before any hot work is to process a Job
Hazard Analysis must be conducted.

• Cylinder shall be located or secured so that they
cannot be knocked over

Other Requirements
• When using cutting outfits, an Oxy-
acetylene/cutting outfit checklist must be
properly filled.
