IPL RULES & PREMIER
REGULATIONS LEAGUE
RULES AND
REGULATIONS
A team can acquire players through five ways:

1.The annual auction,

2.signing domestic players,
3.signing uncapped players,
4.trading players, and
5.signing replacements.

In the trading window, a player can only be traded with his consent, with
the franchise paying the difference if any between the old and new
contract.
If the new contract is worth more than the older one, the difference is
shared between the player and the franchise selling the player.
RULES AND
REGULATIONS
Some of the team composition rules are as follows:
1.A minimum squad strength of 16 players, one physiotherapist and a
coach.
2.No more than 10 foreign players on the squad and a maximum of four
foreign players in the playing XI.
3. A minimum of 14 Indian players must be included in each squad.
4.A minimum of six players from the BCCI under-22 pool must be
included in each squad.
IPL games utilise television timeouts and hence there is no time limit in
which teams must complete their innings. However, a penalty may be
imposed if the umpires find teams misusing this privilege. Each team is
given a two-and-a-half-minute "strategic timeout" during each innings;
one must be taken by the bowling team between the 6th and 9th overs,
and one by the batting team between the 13th and 16th overs.

IPL BROADCASTING PREMIER
LEAGUE
BROADCASTING
On 17 January 2008 it was announced that a consortium
consisting of India's Sony Entertainment Television (Set Max)
network and Singapore-based World Sport Group secured the
global broadcasting rights of the Indian Premier League.
The record deal has a duration of ten years at a cost of US$1.026
billion. As part of the deal, the consortium will pay the BCCI
US$918 million for the television broadcast rights and US$108
million for the promotion of the tournament.
The initial plan was for 20% of these proceeds would go to IPL,
8% as prize money and 72% would be distributed to the
franchisees from 2008 until 2012, after which the IPL would go
public and list its shares.
However, in March 2010, IPL decided not to go public and list its
shares. Sony-WSG then re-sold parts of the broadcasting rights
geographically to other companies.

CONTROVERSIES LEAGUE
IPL CONTROVERSIES

Indian Premier League and controversies have

always seemed to go hand in hand. The Board of
Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has found itself in
the middle of many conflicts with various cricket
boards around the world as a result of the Indian
Premier League (IPL). Let’s check out the top 10
controversiesthathave surfaced over the years,since
IPL wasfirstintroducedin 2008.
SLAPGATE INCIDENT
If the fours and sixes were not enough to bring attention
to the newly introduced format in 2008, Harbhajan Singh
and Sreesanth created a ‘Slapgate’of their own.

This happened after a match when Harbhajan Singh

probably could not digest the defeat of his team
and ended up slapping Kings XI speedster
Sreesanth.

Though the actual reasons of conflict between the two

players remain unclear to this day, the paceman was
seen crying bitterly on the ground at the end of the IPL
match, which his team won by 66runs.
RAVINDER JADEJA'S ONE YEAR
BAN

Sir Jadeja got banned from third season of IPL in

2010 after he tried to seek a move to the Mumbai
Indians, despite having a contract with
the Rajasthan Royals.

Jadeja appealed against this ban but it was in vain

as IPL authorities decided to make an example of
Jadeja and send out a strict warning against such
actions.
DADA OUT OF KKR

After having him as the skipper for first three seasons,

KKR abandoned Saurav Ganguly in the fourth.
The Shahrukh Khan-owned franchise did not bid for their
ownSourav Ganguly in 2011 IPL auctions.
This came as a heart break to thousands of his fans in
Kolkata.
They launched a “No Dada, No KKR” campaign that saw
several protests being organised both on the streets and
social media.
However, Pune Warriors came to Ganguly’s solace and
took him in place of injured Ashish Nehra.
KING KHAN'S WANKHEDE
STADIUM BRAWL

Shah Rukh Khan may be India’s biggest superstar who

his fans die to have one look at but all his aura is
unwelcome at Wankhede Stadium.

Bollywood star found himself in a controversyin IPL 2012

after he allegedly used abusive language and was
involved in a fight withthe stadiumstaff.

The Mumbai Cricket Stadium (MCA) banned KingKhan’s

entry to the stadium for next five years. The ban has been
lifted recently.
PUNE WORRIORS
WITHDRAWAL

The journey to IPL was a short one for Pune

Warriors India. While the league was rocked by the
spot-fixing scandal in 2013, Pune Warriors had the
troubles of theirown.

They failed to pay the full franchise fee for the year
2013. With the BCCI en-cashing the bank
guarantee, the Sahara group, which owns
the franchise, decided to pull out of the
