Z-Test (Profile)

The document describes how to perform a z-test to compare the actual mean score of 100 Grade 5 students on an English test (78.72) to the hypothetical mean score of 70%. The z-test found the computed z value (17.38) was greater than the critical value (1.96), so the null hypothesis that there is no difference between the means was rejected. It was concluded that the students' performance level on the English test was above average.

Z-test (Profile)

What is Z-test?

The z-test is used when the population is normally

distributed and the population standard deviation is
known.

2
Sample Problem

100 Grade V pupils obtained a mean of 78.72 and an SD of

11.06 in an English test with a standard of 70%. Find the
group performance level at 5% level of significance in an
85-item test.

3
1 Problem:
Is there a difference between the actual
mean and hypothetical mean of the
Grade V pupils in an English test?
H0: There is no significant difference
between the actual and hypothetical
mean of Grade V pupils in an English
test.

5
Data:
x (actual mean) = 78.72
h.m. (hypothetical mean) = 0.70(85) = 59.50
SD = 11.06
N = 100

6
Level of significance:
Set at 5% level of significance

Test Statistic:
z-test to find level or profile

Critical/Tabled Value:
1.96 at 99 d.f.
7
Computation:

z = a.m. - h.m = 78.72 - 59.5

SD 11.06
√N √100
= 17. 38

8
Lor ipsum

Findings:
Computed Value of 17.38 > Tabled Value of 1.96, hence
significant. Lorem ipsum
congue

9
Decision: Reject H0
Interpretational/ Analysis:
There is a significant difference between the
actual and hypothetical means of the Grade V pupils in
an English test.

10
Conclusion: The Grade V pupils' performance
in an English test is Above Average.

Note: Perforance level is:

AA- when H0 is rejected and a.m. > h.m.
BA- when H0 is rejected and a.m. < h.m.
A- when H0 is accepted
