INTRODUCTION
 Pengertian Manufaktur
Kata manufaktur berasal dari kata Latin, yaitu:
manus (hand) & factus (make)
Manufacture (made by hand)

Pengertian Modern:
Manufacturing involves making products from raw
materials by means of various processes, machinery,
and operations, though a well-organized plan for
each activity required.

INTRODUCTION
 Manufacturing Processes

A processing operations transforms a work material

from one state of completion to a more advanced
state that is closer to the final desired product.

Introduction
Cutting
Processes
Machining Principles and
Operations

 Turning
 Work rotates, tool moves for feed
 Lathe and vertical boring machine
Machining Principles and
Operations

 Milling (horizontal)
 Cutter rotates and cuts on periphery; work feeds
into cutter and can be moved in three axes
 Horizontal milling center
Machining Principles and
Operations

 Face milling
 Cutter rotates to cut on its end and periphery on
vertical workpiece
 Horizontal mill, profile mill, and machining center
Machining Principles and
Operations

 Vertical (end) milling

 Cutter rotates to cut on its end and periphery,
work moves on three axes for feed or position;
spindle also moves up or down
 Vertical milling machine, die sinker, machining
center
Machining Principles and
Operations

 Shaping
 Work is held stationary and tool reciprocates;
work can move in two axes; toolhead can be
moves up and down
 Horizontal and vertical shaper
Machining Principles and
Operations

 Planing
 Work reciprocates while tool is stationary; tool can
be moved up. Down, or crosswise; worktable
cannot moved up or down.
 Planer
Machining Principles and
Operations

 Horizontal sawing (cutoff)

 Work is held stationary while the saw cuts either
in one direction as in band sawing or it
reciprocates while being fed downward into the
work.
 Horizontal band saw, reciprocates cutoff saw
Machining Principles and
Operations

 Vertical band sawing (contour sawing)

 Endless band moves downward cutting a kerf in
the workpiece, which can be fed into the saw on
one plane at any direction
 Vertical band saw
Machining Principles and
Operations

 Broaching
 Workpiece is held stationary while a multitooth
cutter is moved across the surface; each tooth in
the cutter cuts progressively deeper.
 Vertical broaching machine, horizontal broaching
machine
Machining Principles and
Operations

 Horizontal spindle surface grinding

 The rotating grinding wheel can be moved up or
down to feed into the workpiece; the table, which
is made to reciprocate, holds the work and can
also be moved crossewise.
 Surface grinder, specialized industrial grinding
machines
Machining Principles and
Operations

 Vertical spindle surface grinding

 The rotating grinding wheel can be move up or
down to feed into the workpiece; the circular table
rotates.
 Blanchard-type surface grinders
Machining Principles and
Operations

 Cylindrical grinding
 The rotating grinding wheel contacts a turning
workpiece that can reciprocate from end to end;
the wheelhead can be moved into the or away
from it
 Cylindrical grinders, specialized industrial grinding
machine
Machining Principles and
Operations

 Centerless grinding
 Work is supported by a workrest between a large
grinding wheel and a smaller feed wheel.
 Centerless grinder
Machining Principles and
Operations

 Drilling and reaming

 Drill or reamer rotates while work is stationary
 Drill presses, vertical milling machines
Machining Principles and
Operations

 Drilling and reaming

 Work turns while drill or reaming is stationary
 Engine lathe, turret lathe, automatic screw
machines
Machining Principles and
Operations

 Boring
 Work rotates, tool moves for feed on internal
surfaces
 Engine lathe, horizontal and vertical turret lathe,
and vertical boring machine (on some horizontal
and vertical boring machines the tool rotates and
the work does not)
INTRODUCTION
 Shaping Processes
Starting material is a heated liquid or semiliquid that
cools and solidifies to from the part geometry
INTRODUCTION
 Particulate processing
Starting material a powder, and the powders are
formed and heated into desired geometry
INTRODUCTION
 Deformation Processes
Starting material is a ductile solid (commonly metal)
that is deformed to shape the part.
INTRODUCTION
 Material Removal
Starting material is solid (ductile or brittle), from
which material is removed so that the resulting part
has desired geometry
INTRODUCTION
 Assembly Operation
1. Permanent Joining

Welding

Brazing or Soldering
INTRODUCTION
 Assembly Operation
2. Mechanical assembly
INTRODUCTION
 Production System
1. Production Facilities
Production facilities consist of the factory,
production equipment, and material handling
equipment.  plant layout

Equipment is usually organized into logical

grouping  manufacturing systems, such as an
automated production line, or a machine cell
consisting of an industrial robot and two
machine tools.
