Optimal Reconfiguration of Distribution System Connected With Distributed Generations

This document discusses optimally reconfiguring a distribution system connected to distributed generations to minimize power losses and improve voltage profiles. It introduces techniques like network reconfiguration and connecting local power supplies such as renewable energy sources to reduce losses. The authors aim to minimize losses and improve voltage in a radial distribution network by optimally reconfiguring the system connected to distributed generations. They will use forward/backward sweep load flow analysis and a genetic algorithm to identify switching plans for reconfiguration and determine optimal distributed generation sizes and locations.

INTRODUCTION:
Among the three parts in power system,
distribution system contributes the most in
terms of power losses even it operates at low
voltage.

The distribution system will eventually

become inefficient and unreliable.

This will subsequently increase the overall

operating cost.
Power losses can be mitigated through
established techniques, such as network
reconfiguration.

Another technique that can be utilized to

reduce power loss in a distribution system is
the interconnection to a local power supply.

The availability of a local power supply will

allow power to be delivered to loads that are
within reach, which will indirectly reduce
power loss.
Examples of a local power supply include
Renewable Energy Sources (RESs), such as
mini-hydro, wind, solar, and biomass etc

This class of the power supply is typically

regarded as “Distributed Generations” (DG).

It has become an essential part of the smart

grids due to the widespread integration of
renewable energy sources.
In this regard an attempt will be made to
minimize power losses and improve the voltage
profile of Radial Distribution Network by
“Optimal Reconfiguration Of Distribution
System Connected With Distributed
Generations”
Techniques that are selected for
implementation:
For Load flow study analysis Forward/Backward
sweep method is Selected.

Genetic algorithm will be used for identifying

switching operation plan for feeder
reconfiguration and also for DG’s size and
location.
