Tableau Dashboards
• A dashboard is a collection of several views, letting us to compare a variety
of data simultaneously. For example, if we have a set of views that is
reviewed every day, we can create a dashboard that displays all the views
at once, rather than navigate to separate worksheets. Example:
Dashboard Menu: This menu is used to create a new dashboard along with
various display features, such as showing the title and exporting the image, etc.
The important features in this menu are as follows −
 Format sets the layout in terms of colors and sections of the dashboard.
 Actions link the dashboard sheets to external URLs or other sheets.
 Export Image option exports an image of the Dashboard.
Steps to create a Tableau Dashboard
1. Click the New Dashboard button to create a new, empty
dashboard.
2. Drag the first sheet that you want to incorporate as part of the
dashboard onto the Dashboard workspace.
3. Drag the second sheet that you want to use onto the Dashboard
workspace.
4. Release the mouse button to drop the chart in the indicated
location.
5. If desired, change the target size of your dashboard by making a
selection from the Size drop-down list in the Dashboard section of
the navigation menu on the left.
 We can add additional sheets, titles, and so on to a dashboard to
further enhance our visualization. We can also add filters so that
viewers can choose to see only the information that matters to
them.
 If sheets don’t seem to fit properly onto our dashboard, click the
sheet on the dashboard and then select the appropriate Fit option
from the toolbar.
Story in Dashboard

Dashboard Terms Explanation

Dashboard and Layout Tabs By default, we worked on the dashboard tab which
allows us to set most aspects of the dashboard. The
layout tab allows us to set the dimensions and location
of individual dashboard components

Device Preview Button It allows us to see what the dashboard will look like on
different devices and can even save different versions
of the dashboard.

Size It can set the height and width of the dashboard in

pixels. There are several preset size options or we can
set an exact size of your choosing.

Sheets These are the individual worksheets in a workbook that

can be added to the dashboard.
Objects Horizontal: Adds a horizontal layout container that
additional objects can be added to.
Vertical: Adds a vertical layout container that additional
objects can be added to.
Text: Opens a mini word processor where you can add and
format any text you wish.
Image: Adds an image from your computer to the dashboard.
Web Page: Embeds a web page in the dashboard (requires an
Internet connection to display the web page).
Blank: Adds blank space to the dashboard which can be
helpful when dashboard elements are too close to each other
and in a tiled layout.
Tiled or Floating When dashboard elements are tiled, they fill all available
space in their respective tiles. When dashboard elements are
floating, it can be controlled their exact size and location on
the dashboard.
