LOCATION:
Sector 43 ISBT was recently developed on a 21-acre site in south-east
Chandigarh, between junctions 58 and 59 on Vikas Marg. The site is
Chandigarh is a city and a union territory in India that serves as the
capital of the two neighbouring states of Haryana and Punjab adjacent to District Court Complex and near Judicial Academy, opposite
Kajheri Village.

It is located within 2-3miles from the railway station. site is at the crossing of v3 roads. along there are four sectors,these are 19,
18,16&22. site has been approached by two major, highways nh-21 to rupnag arandnh-22 to shimla

• IT IS COLUMN AND BEAM STRUCTURE WITH SQUARE GRIDS OF
17’3” X 17’3”.
• FAÇADE IS OF EXPOSE BRICKWORK.
• ALONG THE N- W SIDE, THE BUILDING IS IN THREE LEVELS
The terminal provides interstate bus connections for Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and
Jammu and Kashmir; and intra-city as well as sub-urban connections. Bus services include A/C and non A/C
services for inter-city and sub-urban routes.

Currently, the terminal serves over 80,000 passenger trips per day with an average occupancy of 45 per bus.
The existing terminal premises comprise five sections. Passenger volume during peak operation hours is
estimated at 8,000, based on average passenger stay duration at 20 mins.

Daily, buses ply over approximately 91 routes (37 long, 47 local, 7 sub-urban). On
average, 2 buses enter the terminal premises per minute, i.e. 120 per hour.

The average bus frequency is 3-5 mins, average idle bus parking 20 mins,
average offloading time 1 min, and average loading time 6 mins. Vehicular
circulation in the terminal. For ISBT buses, entry and exit to the terminal is from
Vikas Marg.
Vehicular parking can be accessed from the arterial road
along the terminal site’s periphery. It comprises 25 auto-
rickshaw parking, 130 car parking (including taxi), 200 two-
wheeler parking, and can accommodate up to 355 vehicles
(ECS) at a time.

The terminal building comprises four floors with built-up


area of over 8,500 sq. m. (excluding the currently vacant
basement parking for two-wheelers). The ground floor
houses 11 reservation counters, 28 loading bays, shops,
tourism offices, cloak room, and basic amenities like toilets
and drinking water. It also includes facilities like a
restaurant, Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) office,
information, police assistance counter etc.

The first floor houses a commuter lodge, consisting of


five rest rooms with attached toilets, and a dormitory
with dining hall and kitchen. It also accommodates a
post office, railway reservation office, and five tourist
offices. In the first floor's east wing, drivers and
conductors have been provided rest rooms, drinking
water, and toilets. The second and third floors are
designated for commercial activity, including pantry
and toilets.

RAILWAY BOOKING OFFICE, POST OFFICE, POLICE POST, STATION SUPERVISOR ROOM, TOURIST INFORMATION OFFICE, RESTAURANT, TOURIST REST
ROOM, TOURISM OFFICE OF CHANDIGARH ETC. HAVE BEEN PROVIDED.

 PARKING

b. THE LOADING BAYS ARE STRAIGHT SAW TOOTH TYPE 12’6” WIDE AND 4” HIGH. COVERED PLATFORM, MANY OF BUS STOPPERS

 SUBWAY-

the building .

 The intercity bus
terminal was designed
on the way to Aksaray,
5km away from the city
center , due to the
existing bus terminal’s
incompatibility
to handle the needs.
The convenience of the
linkage to the local
road of Nigde and to
the city center were the
reasons why this area is
preferred.
 The natural stone texture, indentation, natural fillings and gaps, amorphous and
asylum, and sheltering urge compose the originating point of the structure in the
mysterious topography of Cappadoccia. The protection and urge of shelter need of
the passengers under the rainy weather conditions during the waiting hours is
provided by the amorphous gaps within the fairy chimneys.
 The characteristics of the amorphous gaps on the shell structure was improved by
clinging a rectangular form. A second facade was configured and pulled 5m back
on the rectangular form which is composed of the outer shell structure that faces
the passenger platforms and bus platforms. A semi open waiting area was created
in order to protect the passengers under bad weather conditions. The visual
relationship of the structure between the passenger lobby, waiting halls and the
cafes was reinforced by the transparent surfaces that face the area.

 NEVSEHIR BUS TERMINAL :

Aesthetically appealing and also considered climatic conditions while designing bus terminal

Spacious waiting areas and other indoor areas

Separate parking zones for both 2 and 4 wheeler vehicles

Fuel stations and service area for buses are provided

Maximum use of natural light is allowed into the building with use of skylights and other opening on the façade

Use of locally available bricks for façade treatment

Green area is provided

Same entry and exit for buses , causes chaos at junctions and can cause traffic within the site

 CASE STUDY :

Local bus stand is far from unloading bays , which makes passengers uncomfortable

Metro station access is easy from the bus bays

Separate parking zones for different vehicles

Landscaping elements are providing for the entrance of bus terminal , no recreational spaces are provided near waiting areas

Roofs design (skylights) , jail ventilators , courtyards provide maximum day lighting

Separate parking for 2,3,4 wheelers
