OBJECTIVE
 In the present day society we used to face many incidents that the persons
working as a line man in sub-stations may loss his life due to
1) Shortcircuits
2) Miscommunication between the employees
 As there are automatic switches that are used in the substations which
may leads to the careless ness of the other workers to care off.
 As my paper will be a boon to the line man to tack care of his life by
himself.
INTRODUCTION
 Now a days, electrical accidents to the line man are increasing,while repairing the
electrical substation and maintenance staff.This project gives a solution to this
problem to ensure lineman safety.
 Now,if there is any fault in electrical line,then the line man will switch off the
power supply by entering password and comfortably repair the electrical line
,and after coming to the substation he can switch ON the supply to the
particular line by entering the password.
EXISTED SYSTEM
 In these system we use only automatic switches to make the

control ON/OFF the electrical lines in the substation.
 While repairing the electrical lines due to the lack of
communication between the electrical substation and
maintenance staff and their occur electrical accidents to the line
man.
 Now a days electrical accidents to line man are increasing to
avoid this accidents we use the present day technologies for our
proposed system.
PROPOSED SYSTEM
 Password Based Circuit Breaker is a main project that helps in controlling
the electrical lines with the help of a password.
 This proposed system provides a solution Which can ensure the safety of
the maintenance staff.
Example :-Line man
 The control to turn ON/OFF the lies with the line man only.
 This system has an arrangement such that a password is required to operate
the circuit breaker(ON/OFF).
 Line man can turn off the supply and comfortably repair it,and return to the
substation, then turn on the line by entering the correct password.
 The system is fully controlled by a 8051 Micro controller.

RELAY
It is a electro magnetic switch.

Used to control the electrical devices.
Copper core magnetic flux plays main role here.
KEYPAD
 A keypad is a set of buttons arranged a block or “pad” which
usually bear digits, symbols and usually a complete set of
alphabetical letters.If it mostly contains numbers then it can
also be called ＋a numeric keypad.
 In order to detect which key is pressed from the matrix, the row
lines are to be made low one by one and read the columns.
Assume that if Row1 is made low, then read the columns.
 If any of the key in Row1 is pressed then correspondingly the
column 1 will give low that is if second key is pressed in Row1,
then column2 will give low
RELAY DRIVER(ULN2003)
 ULN2003 is a high voltage and high current Darlington

transistor array.
 It consists of seven NPN Darlington pairs that feature high
voltage outputs with common-cathode. Clamp diode for
switching inductive loads.
The ULN2003 has a 2.7kWseries base resistor for each
Darlington pair for operation directly with TTL or 5v CMOS
devices.

LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY (LCD)
 Most common LCDs connected to the micro controllers are 16x2
and 20x2 displays.
 This means 16 characters per line by 2 lines and 20 characters per
line by 2 lines, respectively.
 The standard is reffered to as HD44780U, which refers to the
controller chip which receives data from an external source (and
communicates directly with the LCD).
LCD BACKGROUND
 If an 8-bit data is used the LCD will require 11 data lines
(3 control lines plus the 8 lines for the data bus
 The three control lines are reffered to as EN, RS and RW
 EN=Enable(used to tell the LCD that you are sending it data)
 RS=Register Select (When RS is low(0),data is treated as a command)
(When RS is High(1),data being sent is text data)
 R/W=Read/Write (When RW is low(0),the data written to theLCD)
(When RW is high(1),the data reading to the LCD)
WORKING OF PROJECT
The numbers pressed in the matrix keypad load corresponding

logical state at the input i.e., port 1.
The program is so returned that when 12371 is pressed it
switches ON load 1 & while 12370 is pressed it switches OFF
load 1.
The program is so returned that when 12381 is pressed it
switches ON load 2 & while 12380 is pressed it switches OFF
load 2.
SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
 Keil an ARM company makes C compliers macro assemblers, real-time
kernels, debuggers, simulations, integrated environments, evaluation
boards, and emulators for ARM7/ARM9/Cortex-M3,
XCI16x/CI16x/ST10,251,and 8051 MCU families.
 Compilers are programs are used to convert a High Level Language to
object code. Desktop compilers produce an output object code for the
underlying microprocessor, but not for other microprocessors
 i.e the programs written in one of the HLL like ‘C’ will compile the
code to run on the system for a particular processor like
x86(underlying microprocessor in the computer).
ADVANTAGES
Avoids electrical accidents to line man.
Project is simple and easy
Uses commonly available components
It gives no scope of password stealing
It is effective in providing safety to the working staff
It can be easily installed
APPLICATIONS
Used in electrical substations to ensure line man safety.
This system is used in buildings and houses.
Used in hotels and shopping malls to save the power.
Can also be used as Password based electrical appliance
control or Password based Load Control system.
CONCLUSION
The project titled “PASSWORD PROTECTED CIRCUIT
BREAKER” gave the following conclusions.
 This circuit breaker control to ensure electric line man’s safety.
 This proposed system provides a solution, which can ensure the
safety of the maintenance.
 The control to turn ON/OFF the line with the line man only.
FUTURE SCOPE
Further the project can be enhanced by using a EEPROM
for user to change the password for a more secured
system.
It can also be interfaced with a GSM Modem for remotely
controlling the electronic circuit breaker via SMS.
