China has implemented RVSM between FL290-FL410. Aircraft must be RVSM compliant and pilots trained on China's FLAS to operate in this airspace. Feet altimeters must be used regardless of meter readings.

Aircraft must have two primary altimetry systems, one automatic altitude keeping device, one altitude alerting device, one ATC transponder, and TCAS. Pilots must also be trained on China's FLAS.

Pilots should climb/descend 100 feet when entering/leaving China RVSM airspace. They should also report reaching assigned altitudes within RVSM airspace.

EFFECTIVE 21 NOV 2007, RVSM HAS BEEN IMPLEMENTED IN

CHINESE AIRSPACE BETWEEN 8,900m (FL291) &

12,500m (FL411) INCLUSIVE.

CHINA RVSM AIRSPACE IS EXCLUSIVE RVSM AIRSPACE &

AIRCRAFT THAT ARE NOT RVSM COMPLIANT MAY NOT
OPERATE INTO THIS AIRSPACE.
PILOT QUALIFICATION

PILOT TRAINING ON CHINA RVSM FLT LVL ALLOCATION SCHEME (FLAS) IS REQUIRED BEFORE
OPERATING INTO CHINA AIRSPACE.

USE OF FEET ALTIMETER IS A MUST

ONLY FEET ALTIMETER IS TO BE USED IN CHINA RVSM AIRSPACE REGARDLESS OF METER

READING.

JEPPESEN TABLE CHINA 1 OF ATC SECTION IS USED FOR CONVERSION FROM

METERS TO FEET

8900m EQUAL 29100 FEET ON CONVERSION TABLE. FLYING WITH METER ALTIMETER , THIS
ALTITUDE IS 29200. CORRECT METHOD IS TO USE TABLE RATHER THAN METER ALTIMETER.
USE OF METER ALTIMETER COMPROMISES 1000 FT VERTICAL SEPERATION.
– TWO PRIMARY ALTIMETRY SYSTEMS.
– ONE AUTOMATIC ALTITUDE-KEEPING DEVICE.
– ONE ALTITUDE-ALERTING DEVICE.
– ONE ATC TRANSPONDER.
– ONE TCAS.
• FLIGHT LEVEL ALLOCATION SCHEME (FLAS) IS BASED ON METRIC FLIGHT LEVELS.

• ATC WILL ISSUE THE CLEARANCE IN METERS.

• PILOTS SHALL USE TABLE TO FIND FLT LVL IN FEET.

• AIRCRAFT SHALL BE FLOWN USING FLT LVL IN FEET.

• READOUT OF ONBOARD AVIONICS WILL NOT NECESSARILY CORRESPOND TO

CLEARED FLT LVL IN METERS. HOWEVER, DIFFERENCE WILL NEVER BE MORE THAN
30 METERS.

PILOT LEVEL CALL

EXCEPT IN AN ADS OR RADAR ENVIRONMENT,PILOTS SHALL REPORT

REACHING ANY ALTITUDE ASSIGNED WITHIN RVSM AIRSPACE.
ATC MAY SUSPEND RVSM UNDER GREATER THAN MODERATE TURBULENCE.

VERTICAL SEPERATION BETWEEN AIRCRAFT WILL THEN BE 600m (2,000 FT).

FLT CREW MAY APPLY

DECISION TO APPLY
SLOP SHALL BE MADE
BY FLT CREW.
AIRCRAFT SHOULD NOT UNDERSHOOT OR OVERSHOOT
ASSIGNED FLT LVL BY MORE THAN 150 FT.
DEVIATIONS OF 300 FT OR MORE FROM CLEARED
FLIGHT LEVEL SHALL BE REPORTED TO ATC.

ON COMPLETION OF FLIGHT, DEVIATIONS ARE ALSO

TO BE REPORTED TO THE OPERATOR.

USE OF STANDARD RVSM PHRASEOLOGY IS
REQUIREDTO AVOID CONFUSION.

EXAMPLES

• CONFIRM RVSM APPROVED.

• AFFIRM RVSM APPROVED.

• NEGATIVE RVSM (IF NOT APPROVED OR EQUIPPED).

• UNABLE RVSM (IF DUE TO TURBULENCE OR EQUIP FAILURE).
• READY TO RESUME RVSM (WHEN CONDITIONS ARE MET).
ALTITUDE DEVIATION DUE TO TURBULENCE/ MWA

WHEN AN ALTITUDE DEVIATION OF 200 FEET OR MORE IS CAUSED BY

SEVERE TURBULENCE AND/OR MOUNTAIN WAVE ACTIVITY(MWA):

 CONTACT ATC AND REPORT “UNABLE RVSM DUE TURBULENCE

OR MWA”AS APPLICABLE.

 REQUEST A VECTOR CLEAR OF TRAFFIC AT ADJACENT FIGHT

LEVELS.

 IF DESIRED, REQUEST FLIGHT LEVEL CHANGE.

 REPORT LOCATION & MAGNITUDE OF TURBULENCE OR

MWA TO ATC.
UNABLE RVSM DUE TO EQUIPMENT FAILURE OF AUTOMATIC ALTITUDE
CONTROL SYSTEM,ALTITUDE ALERTER OR ALL PRIMARY ALTIMETERS

 CONTACT ATC AND STATE “UNABLE RVSM DUE

EQUIPMENT”

 REQUEST CLEARANCE OUT OF RVSM AIRSPACE UNLESS

OPERATIONAL SITUATION DICTATES OTHERWISE.
ONE PRIMARY ALTIMETER REMAINS OPERATIONAL

• CROSS CHECK STAND- BY ALTIMETER;

• NOTIFY ATC OF OPERATION WITH SINGLE PRIMARY ALTIMETER;

• IF UNABLE TO CONFIRM PRIMARY ALTIMETER ACCURACY, FOLLOW

ACTIONS FOR FAILURE OF ALL PRIMARY ALTIMETERS.
TRANSPONDER FAILURE

 REQUEST ATC TO CONTINUE OPERATION AT CLEARED FLT LVL.

 COMPLY REVISED ATC CLEARANCE, IF ISSUED.

AIRCRAFT REQUIRING RAPID DESCENT
 NOTIFY ATC & REQUEST FLT LVL CHANGE.

 UPON DECLARING AN EMERGENCY A PILOT MAY EXERCISE HIS RIGHT &

CHANGE HIS ASSIGNED FLT LVL.

IN THIS CASE, NOTIFY ATC IMMEDIATELY & SUBMIT A REPORT UPON

ARRIVAL AT THE DESTINATION.

 IF UNABLE TO CONTACT ATC AND RAPID DESCENT IS REQUIRED.
