The key takeaways are that S/4HANA uses BRF+ for output management configuration and determination instead of NAST. It also only supports Adobe Document Server and forms.

The main components of output management configuration include defining output types and channels, determining form master templates, assigning form templates, and defining business rules for output determination.

The main output types are emails, prints and XML. The available channels are email, print, XML and IDOC. Templates can also be assigned.

Introduction
With SAP S/4 HANA a new Output Management approach is in place. Output management for SAP
S/4HANA includes cloud qualities such as extensibility enablement, multi- tenancy enablement, and
modification-free configuration.

The configuration is based on BRF+ which is accessible for customers. In SAP S/4 HANA, the target
architecture is based on Adobe Document Server and Adobe Forms only. For the form determination
rules (along with other output parameters) BRF+ functionality is used.

Output management based on NAST was not available for SD Billing from 1511.

Output management for SAP S/4HANA cannot be used if one of the following NAST
transmission mediums is required:
• 8 Special function
• 9 Events (SAP Business Workflow)
• A Distribution (ALE)
• T Tasks (SAP Business Workflow) 3

Pre-requisite

 Uploading XML for importing output determination application in BRF+ (Ref note 2248229).

 Background RFC configuration has been set up

 BRF+ is active and usable

 Adobe Document Server is available – ADS needs to be implemented to allow SAP to fetch PDF
properties for rendering output form

 KPRO has been maintained – KPRO allows to store PDF attachments on physical location.

5
Configurations – Define Output types

Define Output types:

Output Control > Define Output Types

6
Configurations – Assign Output Channels
Assign Output Channels:

Output Control > Assign Output channels

In this activity assign output channels to output type

Only Channels that are available are – EMAIL, PRINT, XML and IDOC (for on premise). Other channels
are not available by default

7
Configurations –Determination of Form Master
Templates
Define determination of form master template:

Output Control > define determination if form master template

 The master form template contains static data (such as a logo and footer) that is applied to each form
page and is determined based on configuration setting maintained.

8
Configurations – Assign Form Templates
Assign form template

Output Control -> define determination if form master template

9
Configurations – Define Business Rules for output det.
Define Business Rule for output determination

Output Control -> Define Business Rule for output determination

• The default output settings for specific business objects can be defined using this setting. This is used to create and maintain
business rules in BRFplus decision tables. These rules are used to determine the output parameters of specific business objects.
An output parameter is, for example, an output channel, a recipient, or a form template. Each rule comprises several determination
steps connected to specific parameters

• Each determination step is connected to a decision table which consists of condition columns (grey fields) and result columns
(green fields). You can add new condition columns using the table settings.

• The determination steps are processed sequentially in the order in which they are listed. Within each decision table, the entries are
processed from top to bottom. Therefore, the table entries should start with the most specific records, followed by more general
ones.

• Exclusive Indicator - It is possible that a determination step returns and processes multiple matches. This is true for the following
determination steps:

• Output type
• Receiver
• Channel
• Email recipient
