INTERNET OF THINGS:

 IoT systems allow users to achieve deeper automation, analysis, and

integration within a system.
 They improve the reach of these areas and their accuracy. IoT utilizes
existing and emerging technology for sensing, networking, and robotics.
 In the early 2000’s, Kevin Ashton was laying the groundwork for what
would become the Internet of Things (IoT) at MIT’s
 AutoID lab. Ashton was one of the pioneers who conceived this notion as
he searched for ways that
 Proctor & Gamble could improve its business by linking RFID information
to the Internet.
AUTOMATION

 Automation can be defined as the technology by which a process or

procedure is performed without human assistance.
 In other words, Automation or automatic control, is the use of various
control systems for operating equipment such as machinery, processes
in factories, boilers and heat treating ovens, switching on telephone
networks, steering and stabilization of ships, aircraft and other
applications and vehicles with minimal or reduced human intervention,
with some processes have been completely automated.
NEED FOR AUTOMATION

 To reduce Periodic or Manual checking

In some critical applications periodic checking of the
process variable is necessary to perform industrial operations. Automation
equipment reduces the periodic or manual operations and establishes the
automatic working conditions.
 To increase the Productivity
Automating the manufacturing and other production
processes increases the production rate by producing output at greater
amounts for a given labour input
NEED FOR AUTOMATION

 Reduce the Production Cost

Using the automatic machines and equipments,
human intervention to control the processes abruptly falls. This reduces
the investment on the labor cost hence the production cost.
 To improve Product Quality
Continuously doing the same work may not be perfect in all the
cases in terms of quality specifications with human efforts. With
automation equipment ,one can get reliable and uniform product quality
by using real time hardware control devices.
NEED FOR AUTOMATION

 To increase the Flexibility

Using the automation equipment various , process are handled
simply without getting any complex environment particularly in
manufacturing processes.
 Operator Friendly and Improves the Safety
Complexity of operating the equipments or processes is reduced
with industrial automation. It changes the position of the operator as
operator to the supervisory role.
TAPPING PROCESS

 Tapping is the operation of cutting internal threads in a hole using a

cutting tool called Tap.
 Most of the industries uses the conventional method -hand tapping.
 Threads are taped by manually rotating & feeding the taps through the
drilled hole
 This conventional method is very time consuming process, less
accurate and includes higher labour cost, and ultimately less
productivity.
 So there is a scope to develop the machine for tapping operation.
TAPPING PROCESS

 We surveyed the industrial atmosphere and the Weiler machine which

is to be automated.
 .
TAPPING PROCESS

 At first we planned to automate the weiler machine using pneumatic

cylinder and compressor.
 Since the cost is beyond budget we are analysing the methods for
automation using IoT.
