Trunking Vs Conventional

1) Conventional systems assign dedicated radio channels to user groups, while trunked systems pool radio channels and assign them dynamically to user groups through a central controller. 2) Trunking systems make more efficient use of available radio spectrum by allowing multiple user groups to share channels, provide privacy of communication, and support large user groups across wide areas through multiple sites. 3) The main differences are that conventional systems dedicate channels to user groups whereas trunked systems assign channels dynamically through "talk groups" and a central controller, allowing trunked systems to support more users across wider areas more efficiently.

Main Differences
Conventional Trunking
Users in a group have a dedicated channel Users are in a dedicated “talk group”
All users on that channel hear each other Channels are pooled into a system
Users must wait for clear channel supports many talk groups per channel
When no users are talking, channel is idle. When a user in a talk group speaks, the system assigns an idle channel to the group
Over 24 hour period, most channels are idle “Talk groups” can be prioritized
Conventional mode only Conventional & Trunking Mode
