Sign & Symbol: SUBMITTED BY-Sumit Kumar

Signs and symbols are commonly used in everyday situations such as road signs, information signs, engineering symbols, and circuit diagrams. A sign can be described as an indicator or clue, while a symbol expresses something abstract through objects, gestures, or actions. Symbols have the power to produce reactions in people. There are also differences between signs and symbols - signs point to something concrete like traffic rules while symbols represent ideas that are difficult to express in words. Architectural structures like pyramids, the Parthenon, Taj Mahal, and Sydney Opera House have also become cultural symbols through their designs and histories.

 Architectural element in
Islamic architecture is the
use of geometrical
patterns.
 The patterns vary in
complexity from simple to
highly sophisticated
designs.
 This mode of decoration
relies heavily on the art of
repetition and symmetry to
generate patterns.
 Difference between Symbols and Signs
• Symbols have one characteristic in common with signs;
they point beyond themselves to something else. The red
sign at the street corner points to the order to stop
the movements of cars at certain intervals. A red light
and the stopping of cars have essentially no relation to
each other, but conventionally they are united as long
as the convention lasts.

enduring love

of achievement, strength and efficiency

and late modern architecture.
