The document defines scientific notation and provides rules and examples for writing numbers in scientific notation. It states that scientific notation is a way of writing large or small numbers in a short or long form using exponents of 10. It then lists 5 rules for scientific notation, such as the base is always 10 and the exponent is an integer. Finally, it gives 4 examples of numbers written in scientific notation, such as 5024 = 5.204×103, with both positive and negative exponents.

SCIENTIFIC NOTATION;
• DEFINITION:
• It is a way of writing a large number or
small number in a short or long form.

• It is a short hand method trough which we can

simplify numbers

• E.g( 9.32×10 4 = 9.3200)

(0.0000456 = 4.56×10 5)
• RULES:
• Rule 1;
• the base is always 10
• Rule 2;
• the exponent is a non-zero integer (+or -).
• Rule 3;
• the absolute value of the coefficient is greater
than or equal to 1 and strictly less than 10.
• Rule 4;
• the exponent carries the sign (+ or - ).
• CONT…….
• Rule 5;
• if we move from left to right so exponent
sign will be negative (-).
• And if we move from right to left so
exponent sign will be positive (+).

• EXAMPLES;
• EXAMPLES;
• 5024 ===== 5.204×10 3
• 45,600,000 ===== 4.56×10 7
• positive exponent.
• 0.0090231 ==== 9.0231×10 -3
• 0.0000843 ==== 8.43×10 -5
• negative exponent.
