MOT
MOT
 It is a storage tank contains the oil necessary for lubrication and cooling
of the bearing and for jacking oil system.

 The capacity of the tank is such that the full quantity of oil is circulated
not more than 8 times per hour. It helps in sedimentation and deaeration of
the oil as it get sufficient retention period (approx. 7-8 minutes).

 Oil returning to the tank first flows through a submerged inlet into the
riser section of the tank where the first stage deaeration takes place as the
oil rises to the top of the tank. Oil overflows from the riser section through
the oil strainer into the adjascent section of the tank and collected in the
suction section of the oil pumps.

 Two Nos. basket strainer is provided in the MOT for filteration

purpose in the passage of oil path upstream of pump operating zone.

AUXILIARY OIL PUMPS(AOPS)
 Two in number, AC motor driven
Vertical one stage centrifugal pump with radial
impeller & volute casing.
Supplies oil during turbo-set starting and stopping
when the turbine is running at speed lower than
2800 rpm supplies oil to the lubrication system and
barring gear (at <510 rpm)
Capacity: 360.96m3/Hr.
Disch Head: 78.4 mWC
Motor capacity(KW/HP): 110/150
RPM: 2965
Current: 173A, Volt: 415V
EMERGENCY OIL PUMP (EOP)

The emergency oil pump is centrifugal submersible

pump, which draw oil directly from the main oil
tank.
The turbine oil is forwarded by the emergency oil
pump while bypassing the oil cooler and oil filter
in the lubricating oil system when the auxiliary oil
pumps are unavailable for turbine oil supply.
Motor capacity: 13KW
Armature Volt: 155V, Current: 97A
Field Volt: 220V , Current: 0.85A
RPM: 1425
MAIN OIL PUMP(MOP)
• LOCATION: This pump is mounted in the front
bearing pedestal. It is coupled with turbine rotor
through a gear coupling.
• Oil suction from MOT Through two number of
injectors connected in series.
• Takes over when turbine speed > 2800 rpm.
• Supplies oil for turbine bearing lubrication
system.

INJECTOR
 The injector produces adequate pressure for all operating condition at the
suction of the Main oil Pump.

 Injectors are located upstream of the main oil pump (suction side). The
injector is a submersible pump, which draws the turbine oil directly from
the main oil tank using turbine oil and forwards it to the main oil pump
under positive pressure.

 The injector ensures a positive pressure of approx. 0.2 bar in the suction
line immediately upstream of the MOP.

MOTIVE OUTLET
FLUID

INLET FLUID

Injector is a pump like device that uses the venturi effect of a converging- diverging
nozzle to convert the pressure energy of a motive fluid to velocity energy which
creates a low pressure zone that draws in and entrains a suction fluid.

After passing through the throat of the injector, the mixed fluid expands and the
velocity is reduced which results in recompressing the mixed fluids by converting
velocity energy back into pressure energy.

In injector, the pressure energy of the inlet motive fluid is converted to kinetic
energy in the form of velocity head at the throat of the nozzle and the mixed fluid
expands in the divergent diffuser resulting the kinetic energy is converted back to
pressure energy at the diffuser outlet in accordance with Bernoulli’s principle. 19

OIL COOLERS
 Oil cooler-1 & Oil Cooler-2
One oil cooler is always in operation to remove
the heat generated by the turbine and
generator bearings from the turbine oil. The
second oil cooler is on standby.
The double multiport butterfly valve is the
changeover valve for the oil coolers
THREE WAY TEMP CONTROL VALVE
• The oil temp. control valve is a multiport valve in which
hot & cold turbine oil is mixed to obtain the desired
lubricating oil temp of approx. 45 Deg C downstream of
the control valve.

Actuator.
OIL VAPOUR EXTRACTION SYSTEM
 Oil vapour forms due to turbulent flow of turbine oil in the bearing pedestals and due to
release of entrained air in the oil return lines and Main Oil Tank.

 Oil vapour extractor removes the oil vapour from Main Oil tank, lube oil return line and
bearing pedestals and maintain slightly negative pressure so that turbine oil or oil vapour does
not escaping into the atmosphere.

 Turbine oil and vapour are separated in the oil separator of the oil vapour extractor so
that the air released into the atmosphere is virtually free of oil.

 Volumetric flow in the oil vapour extraction lines is adjusted with throttle valves so that
negative pressures in the bearing pedestals equal the reference value of approx. 5-10 mmwc.
 If the pressure in one bearing pedestal or in the main oil tank is considerably lower than
the reference value, there is a risk of dust, moisture, or leak off steam from the immediate
atmosphere being drawn into the oil system.

Capacity: 396 m3/Hr

Motor rating: 5.5 KW

OIL Filter
One element of the switchable duplex lubricating oil
filter is always in operation to protect the turbine and
generator bearings against solid contaminants.

Filtration particle size of duplex filter element : 37 um
Filtration particle size of MOT filter element : 250 um
Filtration particle size of jacking oil filter element : 37 um
Main Oil Centrifuge
Required for removing moisture & mechanical
impurities from the turbine oil.
A portion of oil is continuously circulated
through the centrifuge to remove the moisture
from the oil.
HYDRAULIC TURNING GEAR
 The function of the hydraulic turning gear is
to rotate the shaft system at sufficient speed
before start-up and after shutdown in order to
avoid irregular heating up or cooling down &
thus avoid any distortion of the turbine rotors.
 The oil supply to the hydraulic turning gear is
provided from the AOP discharge header.
HYDRAULIC SPEED TRANSDUCER
The MOP shaft also carries the hydraulic speed
transducer. The seal is formed by the rings. The
hydraulic speed transducer operates on the
centrifugal impeller principle, generating a
primary oil pressure to the pump speed.

FIRE PROTECTION
Fire protection basically is a protection against oil
leakage rather than fire. Because oil leakage may
lead to fire, the term Fire Protection is used.
This protection comprises of two individual
protections namely: 1) Fire Protection-1
2) Fire Protection-2
Fire Protection-2 can be operated either in Auto
Mode or in Manual Mode, where as Fire
Protection-1 can be operated in Manual Mode
only.
FIRE PROTECTION……
For manual operation, Fire Protection switches
are provided at different locations like 1. MOT
ROOM 2.UCP & DCS Panel.
For auto operation of Fire Protection, MOT
level LO LO signal (1050 mm) is used.
Whenever 2 out of 3 level transmitters show LO
LO level, Fire Protection-2 will be initiated.
