CHARGING SYSTEM-

ARCHITECTURE OVERVIEW
Charging System Functions
- Which are used for operator’s to managing day-to-day
business characteristics and providing an performance and
management Business
-
BSS Solution Architecture

Charging System consists of several solution components, i.e. AIR

(Account Information and Refill) AF (Account Finder), SDP
(Service Data Point), CCN (Call Control Node), and CRS (Charging
data Reporting System)
CS5.1 Logical Architecture

Figure below shows the CS5.1 logical architecture, which tells the
core components and surrounding components, and how each of
them are integrated.
Components
SDP (Service Data Point)
• SDP network element contains the database with subscribers
and account information
• It also provides rating of calls and events as well as post
processing of Charging Data Records (CDR
• Initiation of Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD)
and SMS notifications (e.g. :Notification after call)
• Optionally, the SDP also has support for network redundancy
and geographic redundancy
Solution Components
SDP (Service Data Point)
• Hardware HP ProLiant DL380 G7
Solution Components
CCN (Charging Control Node)
• CCN service logic is responsible for maintaining a charging
session towards the application network element, as well as a
charging interrogation session towards the SDP
• Protocol Conversion
• Relay Online Charging (Voice, SMS, GPRS etc.)
• Generate DATA, Voice , SMS CDR’s

Solution Components
AIR (Account Information and Refill)
• AIR handles all refill functions and refill configuration
• Eg: check balance *122# or check bonus *122*3#
• E.g. : Refill Via USSD *122*serialnumber#
• The answer to a successful refill request indicates the refill
amount, the new balance and the new service period
Solution Components
IVR (Interactive Voice Responder)
• The IVR is a user interface for refill, balance inquiries and
language settings. (call 122)
• The IVR provides announcements and voice prompts to the
subscriber and receives DTMF signalling in response
Solution Components
VS (Voucher Server)
• Held all voucher database, which can be standalone or co-
located with AIR
• Using HardwVoucher can Purged and reuse again as the expiry
date passed
Solution Components
VS (Voucher Server)
Solution Components
VS (Voucher Server)

UNAVAILABLE: A voucher in this state is not yet ready to be

consumed.
AVAILABLE: A voucher in this state is ready to be consumed.
USED: A voucher is in this state has been consumed. The voucher
is no longer usable and can be purged.
Stolen and Damaged: A voucher stolen or scratch damaged
Solution Components
ECMS (Ericsson Customer Management System )
• ECMS is the strategic platform for customer care functionality
• Customer care data is exchanged with Charging System in real
time
Solution Components
ECMS (Ericsson Customer Management System )
Solution Components
CRS (Charging data Reporting System)
• Reports concerning usage and account history, subscriber
provisioning and life-cycle, finance and audits
• CRS handles the Call and Account History, which is made
available for Customer Care through integration with ECMS
• Data Collection, Data Processing, Information Distribution
Solution Components
EMM (Ericsson Multi Mediation)
• File and event mediation provides a flexible and powerful
mediation solution
• Collect all CDR from charging node using FTP and processing
through CRS
