Relations and Functions 1

A relation is a set of ordered pairs. A function is a special type of relation where each input is assigned to only one output. Functions can be represented as a mapping, graph, table, or set of ordered pairs. For a relation to be a function, no value in the domain can be repeated as the input.

Relations and Functions

Standard: UNDERSTAND that a function is a rule that

assigns to each input exactly one output. The graph
of a function is the set of ordered pairs consisting of
an input and the corresponding output.

Note: Function notation is not required in Grade 8.
