Statistical Methods Course Syllabus

This 3-unit course covers both descriptive and inferential statistics over 18 sessions totaling 54 hours. The descriptive portion includes organizing and analyzing raw data through tables, measures of central tendency, probability, and distributions. The inferential portion covers sampling theory, estimation, hypothesis testing for single and two populations, analysis of variance, regression, and non-parametric statistics. The course objectives are to provide students with basic statistical knowledge and tools to analyze real-world problems and prepare for advanced statistics learning. Student performance will be evaluated through quizzes, problem sets, exams, and problem compilations.

Course Description
• This course focuses primarily on the
descriptive branch of statistics that comprise
of data analysis and organization of raw data
into frequency table, measures of central
tendency and dispersion, other descriptive
statistics, introduction of probability and
counting techniques, probability law rules,

inferential branch of statistics that includes
sampling theory and sampling distribution,
central limit theorem, estimation of means,
proportion and standard deviation for single
and two populations, test of hypotheses for
single and two populations, test of hypotheses
for single and two populations, chi square
test, ANOVA, linear regression and correlation
analysis, multiple linear regression and non-
parametric statistics.
Course Objectives
• The course should be able to:
1. Provide the students with the basic
knowledge and understanding of concepts
and applications of descriptive and inferential
statistics.
2. Equip the students with the various statistical
tools needed in assessing and analyzing
actual real world problems.
3. Provide the students a springboard for
advance learning in statistics and its
applications in the real world.
