Interior angles of a triangle always sum to 180 degrees. The measure of an exterior angle of a triangle equals the sum of the measures of the two non-adjacent interior angles. For example, in one problem the angles were given as y=40, x=30, so the exterior angle would be x+y=40+30=70 degrees.
