Introduction:

 Alternate construction materials are those which

can be used economically by replacing the
conventional construction materials. Alternate
construction materials are made from waste
products and thus it even minimizes environmental
pollution.These alternate construction materials
can be used when it meets the respective
specifications in the code of practice.
Description about the topics:
Alternate construction materials instead of bricks:

 The best substitute of bricks are Natural Stones like Laterite

Stone, Soil Stabilized Blocks, Terracotta Hollow Blocks,
Bangalore Stone, Interlocking Mud Blocks, Aerocon Light
weight big size Bricks and the HBG Stone available in every
state for CRS masonry.
 External and Internal Vie of wall constructed with Terracotta
Hollow Blocks.
Size( 500mm x 450mm x 200mm and 450mmx 300mm x
200mm) for constructing 200mm thick wall .
Alternate construction materials instead of sand:

 The use of alternatives to sands as a replacement fine

aggregate in concrete is receiving increased attention. As a
solution for this, various alternatives are explored and used in
many parts of the world. Some of them are:
– Manufactured Sand(M Sand)
– Fly Ash/ Bottom Ash/Pond Ash
– Slag Sand
– Copper Slag Sand
– Construction Demolition Waste
Alternate construction materials instead of
cement: Fly ash

 There are alternative materials that can supplement clinker

without compromising the performance of cement as a
construction material. The advantage of using these
alternatives to clinker is that it reduces the amount of clinker
produced, with consequent savings in raw materials,
electricity, fuel, and emissions. Cements using these
materials are called blended cements.
 Supplementary cementitious materials include fly ash (from
coal-burning power stations), ground granulated blast-
furnace slag (from the steel industry) and silica fume. The
use of SCMs reduces the quantity of clinker or cement
required. They are added to cement either at the grinding
stage or by blending with cement after grinding.Because of
differences in chemistry, SCMs affect the performance of
cement in concrete to suit different applications.

Alternate construction materials instead of
course aggregates:

 The management and recycling of E plastic waste is rapidly

growing as it is a valuable resource of IT industries and it is
very hazardous substances and with low recycling rate. The
Utilization of e plastic waste materials is a partial solution to
environmental and ecological problems. As the use of E
plastic waste will reduces the Aggregate cost and provides a
good strength for the structures and roads. It will reduces the
landfill cost and it is energy saving.
 An experimental study is made on the utilization of E-waste
particles as fine and coarse aggregates in concrete with a
percentage replacement ranging on the strength criteria of
M20 Concrete. Compressive strength, Tensile strength and
Flexural strength Concrete with and without E- waste plastic
as aggregates was observed which exhibits a good strength.
Alternate construction materials instead of concrete:

 We have never been fond of concrete for single family

residential uses; there is too much gravel excavation, carbon
released making cement, transport of a heavy, marginally
recyclable material to house a couple of people. Yet there is
something to be said for some of the properties of concrete; it is
strong, verminproof. has good thermal mass and is non-
combustible.
 The GigaCretea cement binder is 100% nontoxic.

 GigaCretea products use approximately two-thirds less

water than conventional Portland-based cement products.

 High resistance to mold, mildew, insects, and vermin

facilitates cleaner living environments.

 Eco Friendly GigaFoam utilizes 100% waste ash as a filler

material and is the only waste ash foam on the market.
-Eco Friendly StuccoMax-E (environmental) contains 80%
(by volume) recycled bottom ash filler material - and is the
only stucco product on the market that utilizes bottom ash in
such high content.

Bamboo: A Viable Alternative to Reinforcement

 Developing countries have the highest demand for

reinforced concrete, but often do not have the means to
produce the steel to meet that demand. Rather than put
themselves at the mercy of a global market dominated by
developed countries, Singapore’s labratoty suggests an
alternative to this manufactured rarity: Bamboo. In trials of
tensile strength, bamboo outperforms most other materials,
reinforcement steel included.
 It achieves this strength through its hollow, tubular structure,
evolved over millennia to resist wind forces in its natural
habitat. This lightweight structure also makes it easy to
harvest and transport. Due to its incredibly rapid growth cycle
and the variety of areas in which it is able to grow, bamboo is
also extremely cheap. Such rapid growth plant growth
requires the grass to absorb large quantities of CO2, meaning
that its cultivatio

Result:

 Many alternative building materials are eco-friendly or

made of natural and renewable materials. Some green
homes are also very energy efficient as well as green to
build, so eco-conscious consumers can make good choices
for their lifestyles by looking into some of these alternative
building materials.
Conclusion:

 Construction and building materials provides an

international forum for the dissemination of research and
development in the field of Construction and building
materials and their application in new works and repair
practice. The materials and technology covered include:
cement, concrete reinforcement, bricks and mortars,
additives, corrosion technology, ceramics, timber, steel,
polymers, glass fibers, recycled materials and by-products,
sealants, adhesives
