Family
• A group with common ancestor.
• A group which is united by blood or
marriage.
• Married couple with or without children.
• Unmarried couple with children.
• Single parent with children.
Structure of the Family
• The family might be kinship grouping
which provides for the rearing of
children and for certain needs.
• Us bureau of census defines a family
as two or more persons related by
blood marriage or adoption and
residing together in house hold.
Composition of the
Family Group
Conjugal family. Married couple
with there children. Its all
about sharing and happiness.

• The consanguine family. It is
based not upon the conjugal
relationship of husband & wife.
But upon the blood relationship
of a number of kinspersons.
Marriage
• Marriage is the approved social pattern
whereby two are more persons established
family.

• It is the acceptance of a new status with a


new set of privileges and obligations in the
recognition of this new status by others.
Types of marriage
• Endogamy: Every society limits
chouse in marriage by requiring that
mates be chosen with in some
specified group.
• Exogamy: Every society limit chouse
in marriage by requiring that one
choose a mate out side some
specified group.
• Neo Local Marriage: Once the
married couple living in isolation along
with there children's.
• Petri Local Marriage: Married couple
lives with husband family.
• Marital Local Marriage: Married couple
lives with the wife family.
• Monogamy: Once male individual have
one wife.
• Polygamy: its has three types.
 Group Marriage. This kind of marriage
several men and several woman are all in
marriage relationship with one another.

Functions of family
• Sexual Regulation Function:
• The Reproductive Function:
• Socialization: Process in which one internalized
the values norms in a manner that unique self
emerges.
• The Affectional Functions: What ever else
people need they need intimate human
response. People with cause of emotional
difficulties behavior problems and even
physical illness is due to lack love.
And also lack of affectionate relationship
with a small circle of intimate associates.
 Marasmus: Infants who receive good basic
physical care but who are not cuddled,
fondled and loved a likely to developed a
condition.
• Status Definition Functions:
 Ascribed Status: Several statuses with in
the family e.g. Age and birth Order.
 Class Status: It consists of different
classes of people who belongs to that classes.
• Protective Function: In many societies
any attack upon a person is an attack
upon that persons in entire family with
all members bound to defend the family
member or to revenge injury.
• Economic Function: The family is a basic
economic unit in most primitive
societies. Its member work together as
a team and share jointly in there
produces.
