PLC (Programmable Logic Control) : Por: Jader Morelo Efraín Ponce Yonatan Garcés Johan Arias

The PLC was invented in 1968 by General Motors to replace complex relay control systems. A PLC is a digital computer used for automation of electromechanical processes that is programmed using a specialized language. PLCs have input and output modules that convert signals for processing and actuation. Common programming languages include ladder logic, function block diagrams, and structured text. PLCs are used in applications like factories, machines, and vehicles to control processes. Advantages include easy programming and changes without rewiring, while disadvantages include higher costs than relay systems. Future improvements could include voice programming, direct cable connections to machines, and satellite-based control of factory machines.

HISTORY OF PLC´S
 The PLC was invented in
response to the needs of
the American automotive
manufacturing industry.

 The first Programmable

Logic Controller (PLC)
was developed by a group
of engineers at General
Motors in 1968, when the
company were looking
for an alternative to
replace complex relay
control systems.
WHAT IS THE PLC´S
 A programmable
logic controller
(PLC) or
programmable
controller is a
digital computer
used for
automation of
electromechanical
processes.

This is actually a control device that consists of a

programmable microprocessor, and is programmed using a
specialized computer language.

of a PLC
Functionality and Programming
The function of an input module is
to convert incoming signals into
signals, which can be processed by
the PLC, and to pass these to the
central control unit. The reverse
task is performed by an output
module. This converts the PLC
signal into signals suitable for the
actuators.
Structure ,Functionality and
Programming of a PLC
Programming
User interface: Human-Machine Interface
(HMI)
Communications: Modbus, BACnet or DF1,
DeviceNet or Profibus.
programming languages for programmable
control systems: FBD (Function block
diagram), LD (Ladder diagram), ST (Structured
text, similar to the Pascal programming
language), IL (Instruction list, similar to
assembly language) and SFC (Sequential
function chart). These techniques emphasize
logical organization of operations.
Areas of application of a PLC
Every system or machine has a controller.
Depending on the type of technology used,
controllers can be divided into pneumatic,
hydraulic, electrical and electronic controllers.
Frequently, a combination of different
technologies is used.

Typical applications for such controllers can be

found in automatic washing machines, video
cameras, and cars.
ADVANTAGES

 Simple programming
 Program changes without system
intervention(no internal rewiring)
 The controller is Smaller and low cost
maintenance

DISADVANTAGES

The controller is expensive and more reliable

than corresponding relay control systems.
improvement
in the PLC
Businesses today, who
think in the future, are
equipped with modern
electronic devices in
your machine and
process control. Today
automated factories
should include in their
systems, high efficiency
and flexibility.
PLC programming is
done through voice,
ordering the desired
actions and store them
in his memory to repeat
progressively
the dashboard just use
a cable that connects
directly to the machine
without using more
supplements
operate of each
machine that has a PLC
in the factory, operated
via a satellite from an
office
