“I am no bird; and no net ensnares me: I am a free human
being with an independent will.” Charlotte Bronte, Jane Eyre
What is a free human being ?

“Not subject to
engagements or
obligations.”

What is independent will ?
“Independent will is our capacity to act. It gives
us the power to transcend our paradigms, to
swim upstream, to rewrite our scripts, to act
based on principle rather than reacting based
on emotion or circumstance.” Stephen R. Covey
(“A Quote by Stephen R. Covey.”)

Independence can be
defined as “Free from
outside control; not
subject to another's Will can be defined as “The faculty by
authority” (“Independent which a person decides on and initiates

What being a free human being with
independent will means to me

Being a free human being with independent will to me

means to be able to do anything you want. You’re not
held back by anything that’s not in your control.
Anything you want to do in life you are capable of if
you put in the effort and work. It is also the ability to
express yourself freely through language, music, sports,
religion and things like that.

for his dedication to freeing his people
My thoughts on Nelson Mandela

I think Nelson Mandela lived his life as a free human

being with independent will. He grew up in a place
without a lot of freedom but he always acted free and
would do anything it took to help his people feel and be
this way as well. Throughout his whole life he fought for
others and spent 27 years in jail for an unjust crime. In
jail other people would have given up or been defeated
but he never gave up his independent will and always
fought for what he believed in and continued to make a
difference.

My thoughts on Chance the Rapper
I think Chance the Rapper is a great example of
a free human being with a independent will.
Even though almost anyone in his shoes would
have taken the easy way out and signed to a
record label he did not care about the money
but wanted to be independent and I think he
knew people would appreciate him for this. He
took a chance but because his music was also
very liked he blew up and made his career on
his own. He risked everything to do things his
own way and be free.
How am I a free human being with
independent will ?
What Freedom Means to Me
To me freedom means being able to express yourself, do the
things you want without restriction and regardless of your
circumstances. Freedom also means different things to other
people. Nelson Mandela is a great example of someone who
acted free even when he was in jail and also worked for the
civil rights of the people of his country. He knew without basic
civil rights it would be very hard to have real freedom. Chance
the Rapper lives freedom in a bit of a different way. He cares
more about his music and being true to himself then he does
about getting famous or making money. He wants his music to
be free and so he is responsible for his own career.
Freedom means you have to be able to look after yourself and
be responsible for your own actions and their consequences.
That’s why freedom isn’t always easy.
