Roller Coaster Project

The document provides instructions for students to create a Google Slides presentation on the design of a roller coaster and the relationship between the coaster's design and algebraic functions. Students are asked to solve problems, design their own roller coaster using graph paper or Desmos, and create a presentation with at least 10 slides explaining their coaster design and the algebraic concepts. A rubric is also included to evaluate the students' understanding of the required algebra and the quality of their presentations.

Students will…
• Solve problem 1 and answer the questions to the best of their knowledge
• Design their own rollercoaster on a piece of graph paper or desmos

Design a Roller Coaster
• Use your knowledge of
algebra functions to analyze
how engineers use algebra
functions to design a
rollercoaster. You will use
websites to explore the design
of other roller coasters, and
then create your own
rollercoaster, identify key
points, and create graphs to
describe the layout of the
track.
Presentation should include:
• Your answers to problem 1
• The process of your design (explanations between your design and
the algebra)
• Calculations
• Pictures
• All of your work
• IF YOU USE ANY WEBSITES TO HELP YOU ANSWER THE PROBLEMS,
YOU HAVE TO CITE THEM AND PROVIDE A CITATIONS SLIDE
