Personality

Personality

What comes to the mind?

Why are the following famous?
Development

Physical growth or more?

What would personality development mean?

Personality: an integrated organization of

physical, emotional, intellectual, social,
psychological and spiritual characteristics
of an individual.

Development: an ongoing process of

addition
What comprises a Winning Personality?

A winner, like gold is pure

and fine

….however, all that glitters

is not gold.

Let us discuss the

components of a winning
personality.
1. Be Yourself

Be yourself; everyone else is

already taken. — Oscar Wilde

Being yourself is celebrating

you, as an individual - learning
to express yourself and be
happy with who you are. For
some people, it's learning to
love yourself, for others, it's not
hiding who you are or changing
things about you to fit in.
2. Adaptable to Change

If we are adaptive, we will

react to unexpected events or
unconstructive actions in
creative or constructive ways.
An adaptive individual is able
to refocus the mind in new
directions and make choices
based on his or her desired
outcomes. He or she is open
to change, knowing it is the
set of the sail that matters--
not the direction of the wind.
3. Ability to Smile Through
Bad news is everywhere-
around us-in us-
everywhere.

What we need is to look at

the flip side and smile
away the pain

Chaplin's early years of

desperate poverty
were a great influence on
his characters.
4. Be thankful: Studies show having gratitude can
improve your health

Thankful people typically boast

better overall health, fewer
physical symptoms, higher
income, more energy, larger
social networks and stronger
marriages. They also exercise
more.
They fall asleep more easily at
night. They sleep longer and
more soundly, and they wake up
more refreshed.
5. A Positive Attitude

Positive attitude helps to cope more

easily with the daily affairs of life. It
brings optimism into your life, and
makes it easier to avoid worry and
negative thinking. If you adopt it as a
way of life, it will bring constructive
changes into your life, and makes
them happier, brighter and more
successful. With a positive attitude
you see the bright side of life,
become optimistic and expect the
best to happen. It is certainly a state
of mind that is well
worth developing and strengthening.
6. Learning from Failure

Lincoln "Failures" List

Lost job in 1832.
Defeated for state legislature in 1832.
Failed in business in 1833.
Elected to state legislature in 1834.
Sweetheart died in 1835.
Had nervous breakdown in 1836.
Defeated for Speaker in 1838.
Defeated for nomination for Congress in 1843.
Elected to Congress in 1846.
Lost re nomination in 1848.
Rejected for land officer in 1849.
Defeated for U.S. Senate in 1854.
Defeated for nomination for Vice President in 1856.
Again defeated for U.S. Senate in 1858.
Elected President in 1860
7. Overcoming the Guilt and Worry

Guilt is not a healthy thing to

keep bottled up within you as you
go through life, whether you
think you have to hold on to it or
not. Guilt is often the result of a
refusal to accept that we make
mistakes, we will all have failures
and no one is immune to these
facts of life.
8. Having Clear Goals

 Do not be afraid of having big goals.

You would find that most people are
too afraid to even ask themselves
and truly answer, "What is it that I
truly want?", "Who do I want to
be?". These questions have the
power to change your life.
 You should spend some time
answering these questions. This is
definitely not a quick 5 minutes
thinking session. This should take
you hours or days to truly reflect on
your answers.
9. Respect for Value and People

Treating people with

respect makes your
world a nicer place to
live in, whether it's at
home, at school, at
work, or out in your
community. And it's
easy - all you have to
do is treat people the
way you like to have
them treat you.
10. Clear Communication

Effective communication is important in the

business world but it is equally critical
within personal relationships as well.
Misunderstandings due to ineffective
communications can lead to poor
performance in the business world. In your
personal life, poor communications can lead
to much conflict and heartache. Fortunately,
effective communication skills can be
learned and developed. Learn effective
communication skills
that you can apply to any relationship.
11. Free from Envy and Ego

Ego… that’s the enemy. Ego likes to

follow illusion, likes grandeur, loves to be
the center of everything. Ego loves fame,
money, fun, chaos. Ego loves to
compete, ego loves to follow whatever
that doesn’t require it to discipline itself.
Discipline is ego’s first and foremost
prison.

Envy can be a monster on her own. She

likes to tear apart things that we think are
important. She makes us hungry and
desire what others have.
She is a destructive little beast.
12. Ability to Spread Love and Happiness

 Loving yourself first promotes an overflow of positive emotions that you

can generously share with others.  This also leads to the feeling that
you’re in control of your own life, which in turn makes you feel even
happier.  The better you feel, the higher your level of happiness rises.
Because happiness is contagious, when you raise your own happiness
level others around you will continually raise theirs in reaction to you. And
they might do it without conscious awareness. Your loving happy energy
impacts them positively.

So love yourself first, so you can cultivate

that love and the resulting happiness for
you to share abundantly with others.
13. Stopping to Complain and Crib

This one will work wonders for you and the people around you. If you stop
complaining, you will notice that you will focus less on the negative and
more on the positive side of life. Of course, the people around you will
notice this too. By complaining you raise your own stress level. You’re
saying “something is wrong” and your body reacts with stress.
Complaining is harmful for you and the people around you.

What I used to do during college was put a wristband around my left or

right wrist. Now each time I felt like complaining or
had a negative thought I would change the
wristband to the other wrist. The goal was to
go for 21 full days without changing
that wristband.
14. Honest and Sincere Acknowledgment

Do you ever get tired of people telling you how awesome,

terrific and wonderful you are? I didn’t think so.
Everyone appreciates a sincere acknowledgment. Think
back on the last time someone gave you a real, honest to
goodness, heartfelt acknowledgment, not a compliment
or a brief at-a-boy, but an authentic observation about
how you were showing up at work, at home, or in a
relationship.
A good acknowledgment can,
quite frankly, make your day.
15. Challenging your Beliefs and Fears

 “Just because you’ve believed something

for a long time doesn’t mean its right. It just
means you’ve believed it for a long time!”
Craig Harper.

 People confuse their beliefs with facts, and

generally a belief is something we see as
being true.  Having been told all their life
that they’re useless, a person with low self
esteem
may see this as a fact of life, rather than
a belief they have learnt over the years.

Lance Armstrong
16. Procrastinating Procrastination

 Recognize That You're Procrastinating

 Work Out WHY You're Procrastinating
 Adopt Anti-Procrastination Strategies

Could this be you???

"When I get the feeling to do something, I
lie down until the feeling goes away"
17. Never, never, never, never give up-Winston
Churchill

Nelson Mandela

Campaigned for justice and freedom in his

South Africa. Spent 20 years in jail for his
opposition to apartheid. On release he healed
the wounds of apartheid by his magnanimous
attitude toward his former political enemies.

18. Perseverance

What makes a person successful?

Those who accomplish great things in life
have what I call a “winning attitude”. They
are positive, serve a greater purpose,
passionate about what they do, determined
and believe in themselves. All these
qualities allow them to persevere and
overcome obstacles. Perseverance is a rare
quality. In these days of microwave ovens,
fast food, pagers and instant messaging,
we have become accustomed to instant
gratification. We want everything NOW. So
those who persevere to achieve their goals
stand out.
19. Courage

In ordinary life, we tend to

live in our own little area of
comfort. Often referred to as
our "comfort zone", this is the
safety barrier that we build
around ourselves to protect
us from feelings of hurt, upset
and a desire to react
defensively.

Every day, it helps to take

a step outside this comfort
zone to extend our limits and
explore more life. Healthy
challenges help us to build
courage and strength!
