Job Rotation :
 It involves movement of a manger from one
job to another job .
 The purpose of job rotation is to broaden the
knowledge of managers or potential mangers.
 Trainees learn about the different enterprises
function by rotating in to different positions.
 Increases the interdepartmental co-operation &
reduces the monotony of work .
 It helps the executives to develop general

On the Job Training Methods

Coaching :
In coaching the trainees is placed under a particular
supervisor who acts an instructor & teaches job
knowledge & skills to the trainee .
He tells him what he wants him to do , how it can be
done & follows up while it is being done & corrects
errors.
Here , training is provided during working hours &
care is taken that regular work does not suffer .

On the Job Training Methods

Committee Assignments :
Here, Trainee are appointed as a members of a
committee .
The committee is assigned a subject related to
the business to discuss & make recommendations .
By participating in meetings & discussions every
member learns analytical thinking & decision –
making skills.

Experience :
This is one of the oldest technique of on the
job training .It is learning by doing. It is most
practical & effective method but also inefficient
.

Temporary Promotions : In case, manager is
away for a foreign trip / ill / vacation holiday
senior staff take as a charge of acting manager
temporary promotions . Such a manager is
merely a figurehead makes no decisions &
really doesnot manage the development benefit9

Lecture : It is simplest of all techniques. This is
the best technique to present & explain series
of facts, concept & principles.

The main uses :
1.It is direct & can be used for a larger group
of trainees
2.It gives the scope of the subject clearly
3.It presents the principles , concepts
policies & experiences in the shortest time.

OFF – THE JOB

Conference & seminars :
Is a meeting of several people to discuss the
subjects of common interest . A conference
provides for intensive group discussions & allow
the participants to prepare & present papers.

Role – Playing : A trainee will be assigned a
“role” to be played by him. No dialogue is given
before hand. The role players are provided with
the written or oral description of the situation &

Case studies : A real business problem or
situation is presented to the group & members
of trainee. Then they are asked to identify the
problems & generate alternative solution select
& suggest the best. This method promotes
analytical thinking & problem solving ability It
also improves observation power , decision
making skill.

Programmed Instructions : It is self
learning process .It includes teaching machines
auto instructions & programmed learning. The
features of this instructions is participation by
the trainee & immediate feedback by him.
Trainee learns through computer system, films,
books etc ......

Sensitivity ( T- Group ) Training :
A small group ( T – group ) meets in an
unstructured situation. Here , different groups 14
Are allowed to mix up each other & communicate
with each other freely & criticize the behavior of
each other there by giving a feedback positive /
negative .
